I got two offers and want to get opinions. Seattle Base 145k RSU 55k (155k in total) Annual bonus target 5-10% TC: 207~214k SF Base 175k No RSU Annual bonus target 18% Signing bonus: 15k TC: 221k I’m mid-30 straight asian single woman. SF’s company name value is better than Seattle’s offer. Lived in Seattle for 2 yrs and want to try a new environment now. I love living in Seattle but the weather is depressing and the city is somewhat boring. I know SF is dangerous, dirty and expensive(living cost, rent and tax) but I want to meet new community and network. Want to get any kind of advice! +) Is that TC doable for SF? Just not sure. Thnk you in advance!! YOE: 9+
221k is more than comfortable in SF lol unless you are deep in debt.
Thanks, I don’t have a dept. I thought 221k is too low cause I saw many posts in Blind complaining 300k is not enough Iol
SF is full of greedy folks who think 300k is not enough! Most jobs outside tech do not pay close to that number! How do those people survive?
Financially, Seattle is probably better. San Francisco is actually ok nowadays, weirdly enough. Just don’t go to the shitty neighborhoods at night and don’t leave things in your car. Noe Valley, Potrero Hill, Dogpatch, Marina are all decent neighborhoods in the city that are clean and livable. FiDi has been cleaned up for work hours, you can tell the city is really desperate. Soma and tenderloin is probably still shit.
Thanks for the recommendations! I’ll consider them if I choose SF. Do you know what is the average rent for a studio or a 1b in those decent neighborhoods?
$2900-3300. There is little price difference between an old apartment with old furnishing and an old apartment with some renovations. You’ll have to pay $30-70 for internet, $30-50 for electricity, $100 for water, sewage and garbage Dolores heights is particularly expensive, but some affordable apartments do pop up here and there.
SF is the better of the two bad options. Just stay at least a mile away from Hyde St.
Lol, sadly I only have those two options. Why do you think SF is a better option?
Seattle is a dead city with nothing to do. It's an ok place to live if you are with family or close friends, but boring af otherwise. SF is still relatively social, and it's not hard to find people to hang out with if you have hobbies. The weather is also much better in SF ofc, but I assume you knew that already.
SF by a mile. It's also far less dangerous and dirty than Seattle but yes more expensive as far more desirable.
Is SF less dangerous and dirty than Seattle?
Significantly. Unfortunately while sf has improved Seattle has gotten far worse.
If you don't have a family, SF for sure. Seattle weather sucks and not much to do. Desis like Seattle 'burbs for raising family in houses with big backyard, the Desi-American Dream.
SF maybe oddly similar to Seattle. It’s not much more dangerous or dirty than Seattle, not also not more fun now that a lot of the fun part is gone
SF has more to offer than the other options. It’s more expensive. Pay to play
