Any advice/ experience to get your manager to let you go (not fire you)? I'm planning to retire in 3 yrs at which point I'll have completed 20 yrs at MSFT - I'll be 42 yrs old & at least L65 (current level).
are you currently on a PIP?
Why?
I mean not work a 9-5 anymore & not work for anyone else. Maybe a four hour work day. My investments provide a consistent return of 6k/ month (rentals, stock, crypto, lending) & I own my place. The severence package would be the icing on the cake.
I would approach HR and your manager and tell them you are open to accepting a package should one become available. As you know lots of reorganization and RIFs so no doubt there will be opportunities over next few years. If you are looking at leaving in 3 years have the discussion about 6 months before you want to leave.
Great advice. Honesty is the best path. Thanks!!
if you do that they will fire you outright
42 and retired?

I’m going to assume OP doesn’t have any kids!
You're right. No kids. Wouldn't be possible with kids!
We don’t have kids either. I wanted to retire at the age of 40. I’m 37 now, net worth is just at $1 million but for whatever reason I feel very scared for my future because I think I am behind other tech workers.
Current TC? Org?
What will you do with your life dude. Sounds dope. Maybe just do an hr violation-ish thing. Like say something edgy to a protected minority. They will have to pay you if it’s not obviously offensive
What will you do with your time? I am in similar situations and super bored with Microsoft, and wondering if I should retire or join a startup
Wait for next layoff I guess?
