p long article. if this is true, I'm not surprised that the bro culture in tech is also in gaming, but it's sad to hear. https://kotaku.com/inside-the-culture-of-sexism-at-riot-games-1828165483/amp
Uhh, gamergate?
Just look at the champion designs...
I would expect it to be the worst. But sad to hear indeed.
Because they spend 0 time on it and most are not interested. It’s not a fair comparison. It’s like saying men suck at ..”inserting any female dominated field.” Also not fair. However this is irrelevant to the article. It’s about her ideas not being accepted only until they are brought up by a male employee. Or her achievements are not recognized by her capability and efforts and instead they assume she got favored. So her work is discriminated because of her gender.
Name a competitive female field at which men suck.
I remember when I first started end game raiding in vanilla World of Warcraft (16 at the time), I joined this end raiding guild and their rule was “no girls” because they were to much drama. I remember disguising myself as French Canadian calming my english wasn’t good enough to speak and they let me join after evaluations. After a very long time I was found out; came clean about who I was and why I deceived the players I considered friends. We spent over 8 hours a day together with a common goal. I was a “girl” all my skills and hard work was discredited and I was removed from the guild. The drama “we” bring is immature men’s reactions to us, to who we are. Some of which is fear and ignorance. We aren’t victims... let’s work together (men and women etc) as people and have uncomfortable conversations to resolve these culture issues.
It’s true. Lots of sexism at Riot. But so is the majority of gaming companies tho.
Is there anything in the article untrue/exaggerated? What things have you witnessed not in the article?
80-90% of things in the articles are true (not exaggerated). There are more that is not in the article. This is another article coming from a former employee, and people involved in the incident stepped up and said it’s all true and there was worse stuff. http://meagan-marie.tumblr.com/post/176788011970/six-months-at-riot-games Riot made a statement talking about we have a Diversity initiative. It has been a lip service for years because it didn’t do anything for 4 years. Don’t know if it will do more after the article
I started at Riot about a year ago and haven’t seen anything like what’s described in the article. With that said, a lot of the stuff seems to be true and has happened over several years. There is however a lot of positive things happening right now (people with a bad history being let go, investigations, trainings, changes in the C level, women being promoted etc) and I’m super excited to be part of Riot’s transformation.
Are you from recruiting? Lmao! That is not the overall sentiment at Riot.
Is anything of what I wrote above false? I don’t work in recruiting and can only speak for my own experience.
What is the gender ratio at Fashion brands?
Isn't that expected? I mean look at the pro players. Every single one of them is male..
So you kind of have to wonder if there’s something filtering women from being pros.
This just came up during the overwatch league as well. Some Korean girl was really good, but they didn't sign her because they wanted to make sure the team worked together well (and the rest of the Korean dudes didn't work well with her I guess)
