Got a Development Manager offer from Shopify Canada. Offer: 160k CAD, 210k USD stocks no sign on bonus Current TC: 98k, 80k stocks USD (India) How is the offer? Also, no sign on seems strange given it is an international relocation. Comp seems good to me from Canada perspective. What do you folks think? Edit: Moving to Canada because getting a PR will be easy moreso with this offer. Having a sense of permanency with good quality of life will give me peace of mind abroad.
So 160 base and 210 in stocks, what’s the vesting schedule? Is the 160 in USD or Canadian?
160k is CAD rest USD. 33% stock vests in 1 year, rest equally on quarterly basis.
Shopify had notoriously low salary. Any reason you’re going there? There are many other companies where pay is better and work is likely more interesting. Seems like you’re also moving from India to Canada for this position. Why Canada?

This is very good for Canada.
Can you share your current TC breakdown at Flipkart?
15% of that 98k is variable.
Your indian salary is more than 1cr. I don't think it makes sense to move purely in monetary terms
Yeah it is not about money. US is much more enticing from money point of view but stories of H1B struggles have put me off.
US and Canada are different. You won't have visa issues in Canada. If that's your aim, go for it :)
Solid comp but your career won’t grow in Canada beyond shopify
Why? No bigger better opportunities?
Yup
Good offer but you might be able to get a relocation package too. You may wanna ask if they can help you with relocation.
They did say that they will help with relocation. Is there something specific that I should ask?
I personally think it is good offer in Canada. I have been trying to move my career in level 7 position which is manager level and in Canada, not many companies pays 140k plus stock. I know people says Shopify salary is low but Canada in general pays lower than US big cities. However, I think your salary in India probably will bring you better quality of life as Canada especially Toronto or Vancouver is very expensive to live.
Check out Stripe, they hire remotely for a lot of roles now. I wouldn't be surprised if they open an office in Toronto soon as I hear there a lot people there.
