20% layoffs despite Senior execs promising it wouldn't happen. Flexport buying Shopify Logistics failed operation. Both rumors were presented to internal staff within the past month and called fear mongering, turned out to be true: https://www.cp24.com/news/shopify-to-reduce-workforce-by-20-per-cent-sell-logistics-business-1.6383547
anything rumours turned out to be true these days
Engineering - specially developers are never let go in 1st lay off. Only if the 1st lay off doesn't balance the things they touch developers. This is my experience
Not here bro. Everyone was fair game in all layoffs we’ve had.
Lol no. Eng are the first to go.
The Shopify logistics people are about to receive a big dose of Sniper Clark management. The culture shock will be extreme.
Why's that? Flexport culture very bad? Any elaboration would be helpful!
Dave Clark was one of the big drivers of the crappy culture at Amazon. He was nicknamed “sniper” because of his habit of showing up at fulfillment centres and randomly firing people he saw who he thought were not actively working.
Leadership lied what a surprise
Wow.. 20% all in one go? Damn shit is getting real
Shopify CEO said developers could easily be replaced with those off shore...not surprised here
Wonder if all of Shopifys H1B applications this year for approved and now they are replacing US workers with foreign
Shopify is based in Canada. Their engineers are already cheap as fk.
what roles are let go?
Mostly RnD
It's across various roles. A lot of support and management have been cut. 7/8 leads in my support org team were laid off, including senior leads. Lots of talent. My lead and BP were both laid off so there was no one to help with the layoffs on our team.
It’s funny lol cause last year I saw Shopify ads all over instagram, blind, Facebook, etc about how there were hiring hundreds of senior developers.
I was laid off from Shopify in the July ‘22 round. What does the severance package look like this time around?
16 weeks severance
+ vesting?
