Unclear on if you can change this over time but I like this idea. I prefer more cash so I can have a diversified stock portfolio. #shopify #compensation #tech #salary
Innovative
You can change it, but has to be during election period
Are old employees grandfathered in?
Yes.
Payroll team shooting themselves as we speak. They claimed that employees can adjust their ratios throughout the year. Imagine just changing it every other paycheck. What a disaster
No. It has to be during election period similar to benefits
Is the equity per year or vested over X years? Because if you have to wait 4 years to get your equity it’s better to take the money now and leave stock as low as possible 😅 Or am I am getting smth wrong here?
Equity is vested monthly over 3 months.
Every 3 months there is an election window and you can divvy up your TC. If you’re new, less than 1 year, there is no vesting cliff. So if you joined and TC is $250k, you get that minimum forever, it doesn’t go away like a 4 year vest, it’s just the yearly comp.
The best option is to take 95% cash and 5% rsus.
Agree cash is better than rsu's but the options terms are very good. My pov is: Options for 100k per year (iso) Max cash Remainder rsu
Personally I would do just enough cash to max out 401k and ESPP and take the rest of my TC in RSUs.
Kinda cool!
Spotify please give me an interview! Let me in!!!
Shopify!! Not Spotify 😂
Lmaooo. Oh, Nvm.
What's the difference between rsu and options?
Other than tax benefits why would anyone take options? Assuming strike price for option will be almost the same as stock price at the time of allocation. Also do option expire worthless if spot price is lower than your strike price on the day of vesting?
Options are 40% off
RSU is X year grant and thus free leverage (quit if drop, stay if up) Take just enough cash to live, max RSUs
Not anymore. RSU's vest every month and get reset every quarter.

At Tesla, even the interns are on the chopping block 🪓
If the ratio is 1:1 why would I not go 100% cash and then choose to buy stock myself
You have to take a minimum equity %. For me it’s 5%
Also RSUs have 5% bonus
