I have a PM offer from TikTok and I'm really stresed out weighing whether it's the right move. I'm currently a PM at a B-Tier company for a product that most people in the US use but never mention or think of (think like Intuit, Expedia). I recently got an offer at TikTok, but I have a lot of hesitation due to its notorious culture and WLB. Current Company: - Unreal WLB (it's normal for no one to work on Fridays) - Fully remote - Clear promotion path - Unmotivated coworkers and managers, slow and old product TikTok: - Very bad WLB - Fully in-person 5 days/week - Might want to quit after a year, but I'm on a visa What are the odds of getting an offer from literally any other decent company in this market? I was also interviewing at an FAANG company into the holidays with excellent feedback, but they cancelled the role and said they might be able to reach back out in Q1. YOE: 2.5 Years (Also I'm no longer at Google, it's from an internship.) #TikTok #Offer
What's your current company?
What’s your current company?
Don't join unless you are Chinese. Simple.
The chances of growth or success are 0% if you aren’t Chinese?
Not true . I personally know Indian senior leader in TikTok
PM’s have to work? TC jump is too big. See if current company matches, if not take it and keep looking/boomrang in a year
You are overpaid for 2.5 year YoE. Work 2x the hours to feel worthy. TikTok will ensure you don’t have that impostor syndrome.
He’s not overpaid
I would suggest looking at the $/hr rather than the $ overall. Based on what you said, it looks like you're making roughly $115k post tax right now for working 30ish hour weeks. TT would be $170k post tax for 60 hour weeks, if not more. Is the extra 55k post tax a year worth 30 hours extra every week? There's also a good chance you don't make it the full year at TT and lose your vest. If you made it through the TT interview process, you probably interview pretty well. Look at the Adobes, ServiceNows, Workdays of the world, and you should be able to get a bump to 230ish without losing your quality of life. I presume you're in your 20s. Enjoy life, have fun. You're killing it already, don't sweat it too much :)
That's a substantial TC bump..
Take TikTok - especially if I referred you 😂 Anyone else reading - DM me for a referral
I think it's pretty obvious tbh. If it makes it easier: Think about the money savings when it comes to: 1. difference between fully remote vs in person 5 days, especially if you are able to live anywhere. TikTok is likely in an expensive city. + the time (major major)/gas savings 2. $ per hour of work 3. promo path at current company (more money)
You may decide to leave because of the bad wlb and grind. If you okay with the grind, you should consider it. Working late night, communicating with Chinese/ Asians team members and a very tops down culture makes it a bad choice compared to American based companies

Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Depends on what you value right now. If you’re motivated to climb and don’t mind grinding, then go to TikTok. If wlb is a top priority, then stay put. The other thing to consider is career growth. Do you think you’ll grow more and faster at your current company or at TT? Fwiw, I heard working at TT is an insane grind and I know people who’ve left after short stints. I’m sure it’s a good fit for certain people.
Like all companies it's team dependent. Some teams are a grind. Some teams have the same WLB as OP's current company.
Glad to hear that.
