I have a front end developer background and I moved into a role where I’m a hybrid of an analyst and a manager. My role doesn’t oversee development and I don’t manage people, I manage processes. I work with technical teams to understand the systems that they have developed, make process docs for any new technical solutions and processes, and I present those solutions and how to execute them to both technical and non technical teams. So if you were to bring in something like Salesforce or a software that is used for engaging clients, I would make and oversee the process for using the systems and performing any testing of the systems be it User Acceptance Testing or functional testing. This new Product Management role isn’t technical from what I’m reading, however I believe that I have the skills to handle the role and it would be a good building block to work as a product manager and make a lot more money. It looks like it deals with compliance. I wish to go in the path of a technical product manager or product designer and to build both my technical and business skills. I have the fallback option of getting back on track as a software engineer, but I don’t know what the outlook of that is like. My current TC is $94k New role’s TC is $110k to $120k.
