Should I complete my BSCS?

I completed Lambda School bootcamp and wasn't getting any interviews at all after graduation. So I started my Bachelor's in CS and right after starting, I got my first job offer as SWE. I have since then contracted at decent companies such as Lowe's and AT&T, and been doing pretty good but I'd like to hear your input on whether I should complete college or just focus on my job and LC to get a better job. I'm not necessarily crazy about FAANG, just want a decent TC and good WLB. TC: 220k YOE: 9 months #engineering #software #swe #techcareer #faang

Thank you for your input. Any strong reason why?

1. Clear fundamentals of DS /algorithm/ networks 2. You may come across something which excites you more AI / ML etc. 3. No need to explain how you’re self taught etc 4. Don’t stress on grades as already you’ve great job 5. Learning / education is never out of fashion

Bachelors degrees still have tremendous value as long as you arent getting into serious debt for them. Graduate school is largely a waste of time though

Treat your bachelor's as a long term investment in yourself. It will generate long term benefits. Why? Because people care about your education. People who are a part of the hiring process. You'll obviously find examples where floks are doing amazing without any formal degree, but there is survivorship bias involved while looking at such cases

I am surprised to hear that lowe and att give 220k tc for new grad. What is the breakdown, i.e. base, stocks, bonus etc. Complete your CS degree because it will open more doors for you. Moroever, when the economy tanks, you might have an advantage over those who dont have CS degree. It does not matter if your job does not really need cs.

It's a contract, they have already offered me to convert and if I accept it will drop to ~180k with benefits

180 still actually sounds pretty high. Is it full remote?

Work on the degree slowly while focusing on your new job. Time will fly, and in however many years it takes you, you’ll be happy you did it rather than not.

BS offers you mobility. Also there will still be gaps in knowledge without - yes, you can make it up on your own and OJT, etc. But it will still come in bits and pieces

Take the responses of saying do a BSc with a grain of salt as probably all of them have done a BSc. In my opinion unless its a top school dropout. You’ve got a good job and return offers so you’re at least decent, I don’t see why you would need the diploma. I would look at a person who skipped uni and got decent tech work higher than 70% of BSc grads who probably just did some theoretical cs + leetcode.
