Should I job hop

Company 1 (First company/job out of college) SWE: 8 months (68K base plus 10% bonus) Associate Product Manager: 1 year (68k base plus 10% bonus) Product Owner: 1 year 3 months (90k base plus 10% bonus) Company 2 (Present job) Technical Product Manager: 4 months (116k base plus 6% bonus) I’ve been interviewing and have a chance to increase my comp and get a senior level role or Technical PM II role depending on what company I go with. These roles have a comp range of 128k - 135k base, they do bonuses as well. 1 company is also giving out RSUs. I don’t want to be labeled as a job hopper. Will I be fine to hop again? I plan on staying at the next role for 2-3 years.

I don’t get it, it looks like you’re considering leaving for a pay cut? The roles at company 1, not present job, are lower? And how does the TPM II role play into this?

I would be leaving for a pay increase and promotion. My jobs at company were lower. The TPM II role would be increase scope and higher pay.

Oh, company 1 was your past job before this one? Your post is super confusing to me, makes it look like you are deciding between company 1 and 2.

Jumping from 116k+6% (123k) to 128-135k is not worth it. Wait until you can get a 20% increase (~150k) or a meaningful change in brand or role.

You're not a swe. A history of job hopping after a few months is a very bad look for a product manager. If you do change jobs, plan on staying at the next one for a couple years. If your current situation is good and will give you good experience, I’d stay a year or two and then target 200k+ jobs instead of chasing 10-20k more now, but it’s your career. Also, getting a senior PM title when you’re not actually senior is also not great. Question any situation that would be willing to bring you in at that level when you have 4 months of tpm experience and a year as a po. It’s probably a dumpster fire with no actual senior mentorship.

I appreciate that perspective, I didn’t think about it like that. Thank you.

Every less than 2 year move will get questioned. You can’t make an impact or be effective in your first 6 months so people will see companies invested so much in you and got nothing out. So just like your product interviews, you have to weigh the pros and cons. Is the salary increase worth the increased difficulty in future interviews? I don’t change roles for less than 30%
