Should I move to Meta from Google?

L3 at Google over 3 years. No promotion in near future despite leading and launching a few projects. A boring project, a total mess in product area and org in terms of development, manager not supportive enough. TC: ~240k I've been offerred 320k for L4 system generalists role at Meta. Sounds interesting. About to have a kid within 3 months, job security is important. Should I take the opportunity instead of waiting for promotion? I'm also in talks with Netflix for L4/L5 role, most probably will get L4 if I get a great feedback.

If you’re concerned about job security, accepting the role and staying at your current is a risk but also ensures you’re employed somewhere

Go for it. You are young, and shouldn't have any fear of taking risk.

Second this, I joined as a 4 and got promoted to 5 after a year. Fast promo was a huge selling point for why I picked Meta over Google

Xoogler here. Keep in mind that it's a lot easier to get fired from Meta and Netflix than Google. Meta is also very different culturally compared to Google. Meta moves a lot faster than Google and values speed and impact over engineering practices. Depending where you end up, be prepared to work cross functionally with lots of different teams. If you can't live without email, you will hate it here.

I'm gonna say don't take meta, it's usually good but if you're gonna have a new kid my assumption is that the pace at meta will be more than what you are used to.

L3 for 3 years sounds absolutely nuts. Maybe try internal transfer?
