I've received a fully funded admit from a top 40 uni. I'm also joining Google India next month as L3. Does it make any sense to quit in August and go for masters? I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm considering it. Maybe I'm just nostalgic for school. But I think there are the following benefits: 1. Masters might help in the long term 2. Promotion wise I don't think it'll make a big difference. I'll likely join Google or any other big tech as L4 after masters (I'll prepare hard for LC) and I'll also be L4 in 1.5 years if I stay in India and then move to US on L1 (after maybe 2.5 years). Maybe promotion to L5 might happen 1 year earlier on L1 but that's not a big difference. 3. Higher comp on OPT than L1 4. No L1 restrictions, can join any company any time. 5. Competition is intense so I think L1 is not guaranteed even after 2-3 years of working in India. (Otherwise everybody would've moved) What do you think? If you think I'm wrong, please explain. TC: 25L rupees YOE: 2.5
How will you join as l4 after masters? Masters don't count as work exp
5th point - The thing in bracket is hilarious
Haha In the previous post you said it was your friend you needed advice for.
Very much similar situation. I know stock grants remain same with internal transfer and hence the less comp. But we can keep applying for H1B for 5 or more years while on L1 visa whereas 3 years on OPT. You also get to save a lot of money with internal transfer. Once internally transferred, wait is till you get H1B and once you get that, you are free to make jumps. Also note that your experience counts with internal transfer which makes it easier to land in senior roles which is not very easy after MS. It boils down to why MS? Interested in the study? Go for MS Just for getting a job in US? Try for internal transfer Also Google is the second best company next to Amazon when it comes to providing a chance of internal transfers.
Is Google second best only due to comp?
Second best based on the ease of internal transfer. In amazon u can relocate easily compared to Google.
U should know what to do. We cannot access ur situation. Follow your dreams until it's too late. Google u can join anytime in future but may be u won't get time for masters in future
