Currently at AWS with 3.5 YOE (L5 SDE). Not happy where I’m at right now and wanting to move cities, but the city I’m looking to move to doesn’t have a big Amazon presence so internal transfers are difficult. I’ve been doing some light interview prep but progress is slow and at this point I’m considering just quitting and moving immediately and committing to focusing full time on interview prep and finding a new role once I get there. I’m young with no dependents / debt / important financial responsibilities and have a good nest egg saved up and have my family to fall back on if necessary. Is this a bad idea? How does the job market look right now for mid-level roles? Any others with similar YOE interview recently and have some anecdotal impressions to share about availability of roles and difficulty of getting interviews? I guess my fear is that I won’t be able to find a new role after quitting, but I’m seriously considering it just because I know I’ll be a lot happier if I move. TC: 260K
Can you take some long leave while you figure out a plan?
I mean if anyone can do it, you can. If you have no dependents and a solid savings cushion, you’ll probably be fine Then again the market is kinda fucked at all levels but especially entry/mid level so I wouldn’t risk it. Interview first then leave
YOLO
Stay there and search for another one, spend little time in your current job.
It's easier to find a job when you have a job. Have you exhausted the options to do internal transfers, checked what orgs exist in your desired city and pursued potential opportunities? If you have tried and no go, don't stop your life snd move. Good luck
Generally better and easier to get a job while you have a job, and this market requires you take all the advantages you can. I would slack more at work and push for another opportunity in your shoes.
Just stop caring and do as little as possible while looking for other work, you might then get laid off but you’ll get severance and be able to collect UI You forfeit that if you quit Amazon sucks, I get it but you’re in a better position to get a job with a job and if you lose your job you’ll have financial cushion to keep you more at ease with your transition A friend of mine spent 2-3 months studying on AlgoExpert before interviewing at Google, he got the job but he also was on FMLA at his previous company so he had time to study If you get laid off you’ll get severance and UI as a money buffer and can use that time to really study if it isn’t working out to study while at Amazon

Why is our country owned by Israel? I don't want my tax dollars fund genocide. How can we stop this nonsense?
Test the market before you leave.
