Hi need some suggestions that help me to choose right direction. I am a mom of two little kids. Own a home and my kids are settled in school nearby home. Both me and my husband have a comfortable life both personally and professionally with each of our TC ~185k. I got an offer from Nvidia in bay area, TC 300k. I currently live 150 miles away from bay area. And this new role would require me to relocate. I am in confusion whether to relocate chasing for good career and pay or stay back with the job and life i currently have. What would you do? If anyone had gone through similar situation, please share your inputs. YOE: 8
If you want to chase a career, I would say don't relocate your entire family, just commute. Rent a small studio or something near nvidia for work and fly back to your house for the weekend. I'm sure your managers can let u work Fri and Mon remote.
You can try out for 2 years and come back but keep in mind that 300k for 2 kids in the Bay area is low. Your husband will need to relocate with you and make as much.
Huh, what is your role? I’m surprised NVIDIA is not open to remote. Very tough decision - I don’t think it should be made strictly based on comp though, because living in Bay Area will eat up a lot of the difference.
Mine is silicon validation engineer role. So the position demands to be in lab
At the end you wouldn’t save much is HCOL area even with 300k. I would try to get remote or move to an other company with better pay in my current location. If you want to live to Bay Area you will be affected with: Cost of living , housing affordability, higher taxes , traffic and many more so it will be a bad move for you.
$150k goes a long way in Folsom, CA Compared to $300k in Bay Area.
Thanks all for taking time and sharing your inputs.Really helpful
Bay area is expensive and bad environment for bringing up kids. period

PM is irrelevant role and will die in next 2-3 years.
No harm in trying for a year or 2 and then decide. Opportunities don’t come easy! Good luck
