Crossed a line with my boss
Hi Blind, I am a Data Engineer at a startup working with Python, Airflow, GCP, Docker, CI/CD (Cloud Build), and Databricks. I want to make the move to software engineering because I feel like traditional DE work will eventually be replaced by all these new tools FiveTran, Monte Carlo, Snowflake, etc and compensation/job prospects in software engineering seems better. I am conflicted on whether I should stay in the DE space or pursue Backend Engineer type roles to try to make the transition to software engineering. One data engineer at my company told me he went into DE because it was easier than SWE. And yeah theres quite an explosion of data tools coming up, definitely makes DE stuff easier for everyone else to do. The data engineers in my company all transferred into DevOps at some point
