Should I tell my co-worker he’s going to be fired?

Should I tell my co-worker he’s going to be fired? I caught wind from upper management that they might be firing one of my co-worker. There is this manager that my co-worker and I have and he has been targeting my co-worker. I’m not saying my co-worker is perfect, but it is unfair that they’re ready to fire him, due to this manager. This manager is not a good manager. He is full of hate and vendettas. Any advice?

Why? I hate this manager too, tbh. Also, my friends are the owners of the company. They are literally like family. He has tried to complain to them about me, but customer feed back has made him look insane and my friends / bosses ignore anything he says about me.

The right thing to do is to be neutral. You don’t want to do choose sides and get into crosshairs with either party. The owners of the company might be your friends but friendships are very transient. The company can still fire you without cause. Keep your head down and keep your job. This is none of your business. Life isn’t always fair, deal with it.

are you sure it’s your co-worker or how are you sure it’s not you? How’s your relationship with your manager?

This manager is insecure, because one of the co-owners (Not my friend) who’s responsible for HR is having new employees being trained by me. I get overwhelmingly good feed back from customers. They are contacting stake holders and stake holders are relaying those messages to my friends (2/3 of the owners). The 3rd owner who runs HR took notice, and yeah… This manager has tried to create complaints about me 3 separate times and it has blew up in his face all 3 times. My friends need him as well, so they don’t try and take sides. Anyway, i’m currently working for my friends as a favor temporarily. I will be scaling back working for them significantly in order to look for a new role. They know this as well and were helping me get a job even prior to working for them.

You can’t trust your coworker. Keep quiet.

I would. Solidarity among workers. But be mindful it could (although unlikely) come back to bite you.

What can he do about it? Is there any major wrongdoing? Otherwise, if he's getting fired soon, probably not gonna matter much about starting the job search now. He might have already started.

Well, we have a pretty loose lunch policy. This co-worker was sleeping in his car / took lunch. What the manager did was basically twist the story and say “Co-worker was sleeping in the car. Even after taking lunch lets say.” I know this co-worker isn’t perfect, but this is bologna bullshit from this manager.

Personally, I would have not citing the exact source. It is just to make sure they are prepared. If I was on very good terms with that co-worker, I would tell them the whole truth. That’s just me though. As you can see, most people here prefer to be diplomatic but that’s their nature. You be you.

It might be tempting to warn your co-worker but you should avoid it. You're not the decision maker and this topic is serious. Your co-worker would probably have a lot of emotions irrespective of the final decision once you reveal this to him/her and would create problems for you. If you want more trouble for yourself, then do as you like. Lastly, you can tell a co-worker about the manager after they have left the company and not before. If you think there are issues with the manager, discuss with management and try to take them out.

I feel this. The manager is not a good manager. He feels like he’s the smartest and most cream of the crop guy. He talks shit to almost everyone and so on, because he knows he won’t be fired. My friends are lazy to look for another guy, but this manager is replaceable. He is multi-talented in a sense he’s able to maneuver and wire building tiers with fiber optic cable. I think his skill is nice, but replaceable. Someone who isn’t replaceable wouldn’t be as insecure otherwise.

You might have a conversation with him about being prepared to interview, in this economy, and that you are always happy to review his resume and be a reference for him. Telling him he is about to be fired could put your job in jeopardy.
