Should I wait for promotion?

Manager promised promotion around end of year. It’ll be a 6-7 months wait and I’m expecting ~20% tc increase. Reason for waiting: - increase tc and level before jumping ship - good team and wlb - 24 pto days annually & have time to use them - inertia Reason against: - Re-org is a thing. almost promoted a few times but managers got laid off. - more comp elsewhere - better resume elsewhere T-mobile Bellevue L8 non-tech ic tc 165k (135k base + 15% bonus + 10k rsu) YOE 12

Add a quiz to make it easier to get answers. I would definitely leave. Your exp means you could get a much better tc, and from my experience at T-mobile the "promised promotion" can easily fail to materialize.

Thanks for suggesting poll; added. Totally agree on not materializing.

"Manager promised a promotion by end of year" This mean you have roughly a 95% chance of not getting promoted by the end of the year. I wouldn't bet on those odds, buddy.

Keep looking and if you get better offers then jump off the ship and join the new company!. I would recommend that you must have an offer by the end of next year.

That’s really good TC for a non-tech L08 IC at TMO. What is your title?

T-Mobile SSWE Apr 16, 2022

Its a good tc but not very high. L08 is Sr.

T-Mobile horndog Apr 17, 2022

Good for TmO standards. Iv seen L08s make ~120k TC with 5+ years experience

hehe... dont sit on it. Managers tell enormous amounts of shit promises, never going to happen, specially in T-Mo world. Please look out side and get a better pay and life. Thank us later!!!

You will get lot more stocks outside. TMO has a shit stocks policy. You’d be better somewhere else. With current market, you will Atleast get 50% pay raise.

I was promised a Director role for 3 years at T-Mobile and it never happened.

T-Mobile Vrdt14 OP Apr 19, 2022

At this point, I’d regret not looking/leaving far more than staying.

You don't have to wait if you have an better offer in hand. Either your manager has to match it or you simply walk.
