Peaceful Protest Hasnโt Worked and Has Been Met With Aggression.
To start of, recently interviewed at google, fb, amazon and msft while google interview went bad msft, amazon and fb went good, got offers from amazon and msft but somehow not from fb, so now i am kind of stuck on should i join amazon or not.(msft offered peanuts) Current tc : 240 Amz tc: 305 Yoe : 5 I have been at ebay for 5 years now, saw a few layoffs that motivated me to leave but then had multiple visa related issues so i stayed on, after getting my h1b i started looking. If i look at blind posts there is so much negativity about amazon, although it is said pip is about 5-10% but on blind seems like its 60-70%. Why am i thinking about it, i think for past couple of years i have become kind of a coaster working 10-15 hours a week mostly because the work is not challenging. The problem is i am turning into a bad case of imposter syndrome where i feel like i wont survive at other places cause i havenโt worked much on system design at all, primarily because i did not have any such opportunity and i feel i am becoming too complacent and thats why i think that i need a kick in the back(well not to hard though). I am on h1b so i want to know if i should take this jump or just stay and work for the next promotion that would put me at the same tc.
People like you are the reason we get away with abuse
SDE2 ?
Yes
Don't. Stay at ebay. Just switch teams if needed.
Join msft
I would if they even managed my comp but they wont
Amazon isn't bad as portrayed on Blind. I have been across 3 teams in Europe and find a good wlb. I have only met not more than 2 ass*oles out of around 50 people I worked with who made me think to change team but after reporting to manager, it was taken care of. Amazon is expanding crazy and moving really fast so good chance of growth. There are sometimes operational burden due to that but I never had to work over the weekend or more than 50 hours per week.
EU has strict pro-employee laws, that's why Amazon in EU is less horrible than in US. Ofc salary is ๐ฅ/2
Comparing europe to usa, especially for salary or wlb, is such a noob move. Understand the situation, don't spout nonsense by comparing apples to oranges.
no amazon, don't kill yourself, you on h1b so a pip during pandemic means go back to India
I second this. The stressful life is not worth it but risk of getting fired is a more tangible thing. Keep interviewing
My experience so far is terrible. Working 80 hours a week including 7 hours on weekend and this is without oncall. This company literally doesn't give a damn about you so join at your own risk and prepare to leetcode from day 1
Which org ?
Amazon is where H1B visas workers are exploited heavily. However badly the managers treat the rest of their reports, the abuse towards visa chained workers is heavier as they have fewer options and so will be perfect obedient supplicants to a top down hierarchically oppressive management approach. Blind is an open book of Amazon horror stories on Dev List, Focus, PIP, Pivot, OLR, Talent Review, stack ranking, bad WLB and despotic backstabbing management culture. Enjoy the interviews and use the offer for leverage in hiring negotiations elsewhere (anywhere) would be a strategic approach which I would recommend.
I'm loving Amazon, but I'm doing graphics on the Lumberyard engine. Can you post the team?
240k TC with 15 hrs/week eBay better than 305k with 50hrs amzn Keep interviewing.
Yeah the primary reason is not tc, i am just thinking if i go there and work hard for a couple of years it might have a bigger upside at amz, i see that to be stagnant at ebay
OP your reasoning and comments so circular, I can't even...
