I have been in my company for 7 years working as a data analyst (SQL SSRS SSIS) and my salary has been stuck at 110k since 2018. I’m so sick of having to live paycheck to paycheck in California. Every other job I tried to apply for is paying around the same. I am a beginner in python and Google cloud right now and I am looking for a decent job. I have experience leading projects but no direct reports. Please suggest possible roles and certifications that can help me. I’m leaning towards data engineering and data product manager roles and hopefully bagging one within 2-3 months. I would be really happy if I can get some referrals to get a job that pays at least 200k so I can finally stop having roommates. Tc: 120k YOE:9
Step 1) never again use SSRS or SSIS Step 2) ??? Step 3) Profit
As someone that used the above 2 shit show for 3 yrs at work. Please stay away from them.
Ya. If you’re not using Python/sql you’re gonna have a bad time. R is maybe ok but you’re likely hamstringing your pay bc you can’t program.
If every other job is paying around the same, have you considered relocating?
Your main problem is staying with the same company for 7 years if your goal is higher comp. The fastest way that could almost double your salary is to prep hard and interview with other companies. Simple as that. Too many people get comfortable with their jobs and stay with the same company, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But downside here is low comp and no career growth. Good luck!
Every company is asking for a completely different set of tools not to mention experience. Not sure where to start.
Start by applying and getting the ball rolling
Remote job and then live in Alabama. You just went from paycheck to paycheck to rich
seems op been coasting for a decade.
I won’t lie, I was coasting. Thanks for staying your observation but I’m looking more for helpful information that can get me to a better state
OP, if you really want to grow then you need to push yourself. Why are you still a beginner at Python when you've been chillin in the same role for 7 years? Python's not going to teach itself to you. Take one of your more complex SQL queries and convert it all into python & pandas. In theory you should be able to check your work since you'll have the output of your query to compare against your python/pandas outputs. If you don't have time within the 9-5 work hours, find time to do it outside of work hours. This is exactly what I did when I got started in Analytics only knowing R & SQL. In my first year I took two of my larger projects and re-coded them in Python in my spare time (using stackoverflow to unblock myself). Then I made a note of the most useful functions so that I could remember them for the future. When I wanted to learn pyspark I repeated the exact same process. This worked well enough for me to go from 100% R to 80% Python / 20% R in 5 years and also land FAANG job offers as a Sr. DS with technical screens that were 100% in Python.
Babe. You shouldn’t stay at a company for more than 2 years. Come on! WTF is SSRS/SSIS?? Some kind of fax machine???
Do you have any positions open in Lyft for my credentials?

Sharpen the saw. See what the market is asking for and if you don't have that training, go get it. Maybe it's a course or camp or whatever. Improve your resume and portfolio.
