What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Hello Blinders I am evaluating 2 competing offers in Singapore and Berlin and am looking for your advice. Currently in Netherlands with an Indian passport and family (wife , 2 kids).#tech #offer Berlin : Delivery Hero Base: 120K euro Stocks: 70k over 2 years Singapore : Gojek Base : 220k SGD Bonus: 15% Stocks (all on paper now) : 200k SGD over 4 years Post tax : Berlin : 96k euros Singapore: 160k euros / 262k SGD Numeo cost of living Berlin : 3k per month euros Singapore : 6k per month euros Years of experience : 15 Role: Software Senior
That salary is really really good in Singapore. Though I don’t see how you will get a citizenship there :(
Can't we get citizenship after like 2 years in Singapore?
120k is a steal in Berlin honestly. Will be starting in DH soon. My salary is half of that with 4YOE. Berlin has its ups and downs. Depends on what you value the most. The taxes are high but you get a lot of rebates that offsets it since you are married with a kid.
Mind of I DM you? Need to pick your brain about COL and comp in Berlin.
Sure. Sorry I didn't get this notification earlier.
That singapore offer is wonderful. Singapore's income tax is very low so from financial standpoint Singapore wins hands down.
Wrong. Low taxes, high prices. Try buying a liter of milk you’ll realize how f***ing expensive it it
One meal in SG hawker is 4 SGD. One meal of doner in Berlin is 4 EUR ≈ 6.4 SGD. I am single though so might be a bit different from OP's perspective
Singapore if you enjoy being caned
You planning to rape someone?
Huh? What even?
Wow didn't know Gojek offers that much. Go to SG. That offer is SF bay area standards. What's the breakdown of TC?
Edited it a bit. 220k base and then stock options on top.
If u value work life balance, don’t go to Singapore. If you are willing to work as hard as necessary for max money, choose Singapore. There’s a type of people who enjoy being in sg and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. You have to love a very fast paced life, working very hard, deal with fair amount of office politics and in return you get ridiculously low taxes and a lot of money. You also have a very good shot at accumulating wealth, which is impossible in Germany. You have a relaxing life in Germany but without old money you’re never going to buy property and accumulate capital or wealth with salary alone.
Is the WLB in Singapore influenced by the Indian /Chinese work ethic? I know sg is big on finance, is it equally promising for tech?
I think the work ethic is not as insane as China and India, it’s just something that’s always been there. For the second question, it depends. It’s better than many countries but can’t really rival Bay Area though many companies are starting to set up offices in APAC.
Berlin You are welcome!
So 120k inclusive of stocks or it is just base?
Just base.
Out of curiousity isn't the Berlin offer something like 82k Euro/123K SGD after tax. Then the Singapore offer is something like 262K SGD after tax. Even accounting for cost of living where you might have a 30-40K SGD difference according to Numbeo for a 3 bedroom, Singapore's offer looks significantly better. Only thing is Gojek is still private unlike delivery hero, but perhaps thats a good thing as it may have big upside if it actually IPOs this year. If it were me this is a no brainer for SG to be honest, especially being closer to home. Calculators: https://www.rikvin.com/tools/singapore-income-tax-calculator/ https://www.expattax.de/german-wage-tax-calculator/
The Berlin salary is about 96k accounting for family situation. ThAt is about 150k SGD. Accounting for cost of difference it’s still 30-40k SGDz But I want to explore other aspects of the decision .
Stay in Netherlands. Or try Berlin. Is delivery hero offering blue card? Or a normal work permit? What’s your long term plan.
They are offering Blue card . Long term plan is to do my own thing so need some save some money for that . But also want to secure my family’s future with a strong residence permit or passport.
With a blue card you are looking at 10 years for a passport. Singapore is even longer I think 20+. Not sure how long have you been in Netherlands, I guess it’s 15 years for the passport. If your aim in settling and if you plan this as the last move, I’d recommend check Canada, what’s your age, if under 35 Canada might be a good option too.
