I’m about to be 36. Asian male. No house. Single. No kids. I drive a Honda. My apartment is like a 200 square feet studio and I pay 1000 bucks a month. No debt. I have a timeline to quit my job in the next six months. I’m going to be snowboarding in three continents before backpacking through Asia without a strict timeline. I started booking stuff last weekend. I get so excited when I think about it that I get tingles and fall asleep with a smile. I’ll be going solo. Is anyone else completely unbothered by these expectations of families and society in general? About buying a house, starting a family and building our lives upon a career forever? I’m happy for my friends who have gone down that path of course, but those things sound like a nightmare to me when I haven’t done what I want yet. I’m super aware that my job and finances are allowing me to do this, so I realize how much my career has done for me so far. I’m honestly grateful. But it’s time to switch it up. My NW will be around 800k and I’m putting aside 50k for my travels starting this winter. 8 YOE, TC 250k
Good for you I have set too high expectations for myself I don’t care what others think of me to an extent I only care about having a nice home Atm Career doesn’t matter to an extent as long as I get that home
I hear that. A slight counterpoint…the more I’ve experienced, the more it’s informed where I eventually want to live. I never thought I’d want to be anywhere else but California but once I took up snowboarding, I only browse homes that are within driving distance to the mountains.
I don’t know. But here are my thoughts. Its about the loved ones. If you don’t have any family to share your happy times/ bad times, it makes me to think what am I doing. In the end, when you get old, it gets pretty lonely ( got to know from few old people) if you don’t have anyone by your side. But yeah, it’s your life. Do whatever you want and makes you happy.
Right on, I hear that. Inversely I’ve thought about how much harder, if even possible, to do these things once I have kids. I’d like to think this will make me a better father if and when I ever decide to have children? Idk.
All old people are lonely regardless of how they spent their youth
Have a blast dude! Very few have the luxury to wander, do it in style and have fun!!!
Appreciate you 🙏🏽
Of course you are so happy. Single with no kids.
It’s awesome. Lol
Good for you! Don’t let society define what’s normal, live your life!
💯💯💯
Sounds AMAZING!!
Thank you! I’m super excited.
You had to post this to seek validation, so you aren’t as content as you think.

I would do that if I were still single and had no family even I’m a woman. I don't regret that I'm settle down when I was 24 yo, but if i could go back in time, I would travel around the world solo, enjoy being single before getting married.
It’s also amazing that people find their match that early. I hope you still get to fulfill your traveling wishes at some point!
Yes, we do traveling every year and have been > 20 countries together but it’s much harder and more expensive with kid.
How do you have 8 YOE at almost 36? PhD?
I had unsteady jobs and was traveling for most of my 20’s
Makes sense. I envy your life sometimes. Do you ever get existential? What comes next in life? How do you plan spending your old age? In mid 30s as well, all my friends are married and about half have kids. Wondering about these things myself.

I’m a dude. It’s true that this gives me more time on the question of kids.
Sperm ages too, OP. But good for you that you are loving and living life the way you want it to!
