Just thought I'd share this slight annoyance. Was contacted for a slack senior swe position. Did the recruiter interview and moved on to the manager round which is strange as I don't see why you'd waste manager time on every candidate that passes recruiter screening. Anyways thats all fine. It's a short behavioral. Nothing difficult. The manager I spoke to was actually really cool but come to find out was not the one hiring. He also thought I was at a different stage in the process so he had to pivot last minute. That being said interview went great. Can tell he was impressed with my answers and I'm not one to misread people generally. Wasn't an intensive behavioral anyways. At the end of me asking questions he voluntarily tells me about the next steps meaning he obviously thought I'd pass through. Fast forward to today and get an email from the recruiter saying they wouldn't be moving forward cause there was better fits for the role. Ok that's fine but if you're going to reject me for a role based off my resume why bother interviewing me? Cause I'm positive it wasn't cause of my interview performance. Also no offer to even try to match with another team. Thought Slack would be a cool place to work but that left a bad taste in my mouth. Their recruiting at the very least seems like a shit show.
Pretty much same experience.
Let’s assume they were interviewing 10 candidates for the same role.. some are ahead in the process and some are at talking to hr stage.. by the time they came to scheduling next round with you, somebody already cleared ask the rounds.. so they sent out a reject mail.. imagine they doing 5-6 rounds and then going ahead with there candidate they selected earlier.. do you think that would be any better?
I imagine a better process would be to not accept applicants if it's for one role and you already have plenty of finalist candidates. Or do it like other companies do and do a general hiring process with team matching after
The problem is that your finalists arent 100% going to take your offer either
The other candidate was likely further ahead in the process. You were likely doing well, but had only gone through two rounds when they got 5 rounds and feedback for another candidate. You should stay in touch with the recruiter and let them know you're still interested.
I had a similar experience with Slack where the hiring manager sounded enthusiastic about next steps but I was rejected a week later by the recruiter. “Unfortunately I'm unable to provide specific feedback, but would love to stay in touch for other roles.” Whatever.
> waste manager time lol. what do you think managers do all day?
you do know that they interview in parallel right? they don’t wait around each candidate. they’d never hire all the positions that way just as you should be interviewing in parallel
Chill bro it's not that serious. We're all just corporate drones trying to make a paycheck.
I was sent a PR review link as an online assessment & then told that they decided not to move forward. Was also told no feedback will be provided

Slack has no innovation Salesforce is nothing but glorified crm so much for their ohana after layoffs
Ya Slack isn't the most innovative place to work but I'm just looking for a remote role that pays decent and is relatively chill since Atlassian is a PIP factory now
Wow! Atlassian has become a pip factory ? Hard to believe it had a great culture just few years back. Is it only some orgs or across the board ?
