Hello all! I'm currently in the process of interviewing with Slack for a senior SWE. I made it past the resume screen and initial phone screen. The recruiter gave me details on the steps of the rest of the interview process but I'm wondering what kind of questions I might be asked so I can better prepare. For reference, I know there will be a system design portion, but I've never done one of these so I have no idea what the format is or the expectations. I'm also unsure what the interview with the hiring manager might be like. Is it another overview of my background? Any technical questions at this point? Any pointers will be greatly appreciated! #slack #interview #swe
Grokking the system design should be enough. Recently someone asked me to design a google doc like collaborative text editor. ( It was good one you can read about this. )
Cool, I'll start with Grokking the System Design then. Thanks for the insight!
can you share what the initial phone screen was like?
The initial phone screen was very chill. Just general questions about your background and experience, describe what you’ve done and challenges you’ve overcome, technical decisions you’ve made in the past, etc. Nothing you have to prepare for really other than making sure you can describe your past work generally.
Did you finish the interview process? Can you provide some information on what rounds were there and what type of questions to expect?
Not yet, no. Scheduling has been very difficult 😞
Hey, Did you finish your interviews? Wanted to know more about the overall interview process.
Nope. They went with a candidate who was further in the interview process.
Can you please share your experience?
See above. I didn’t get beyond the phone screen
If you can shell some money out Grokking the system design or systems expert (algo expert ) is a pretty good investment since you’ve never had a chance of system design. There might be quality content on YouTube but you have to search through all those , hence I recommend one of those two
Thanks for this! I had never heard of Algo/Systems Expert before, so I will definitely check that out. I have access to Grokking the System Design on Educative - is that what you meant? Any insight into what the hiring manager call is like?
Op or commenter , any recommendations on reasonable estimation (focused hours ) to pass system design round. Please assume zero system design knowledge. A good 10 hour focused study on the material might be good ?
