Anyone knows hows this company -> Slalom?
Consulting company Seattle based - seems pretty chil
Didn't knew they were Seattle based
HQ in Seattle but presence in every major city
They're legit
Trendy consulting company. They operate all over the US
I think they are expanding to Canada as well.
Reasonably large presence in Vancouver and Toronto. Also a few folks in Europe, Australia, and Japan.
They took 6 rounds of interviews and later came back saying they don’t have availability. Pretty disappointed experience.
Have a couple friends there and they love it
Good wlb?
Really good wlb
excellent company. great WLB, and job rotation, good list of clients, more greenfield work. employee centric. love it here
A former coworker I know pretty well has been there for ages. He really likes it. The variety sounds fun. But I'm not sure I would like "resetting" when it comes to building rapport with coworkers. IMO it's hard enough with WFH/hybrid. @Slalom people, does the company have anti-poaching rules? If you really like a company you work with, is there any reason you couldn't leave Slalom to work for that company?
if you are working for a client and plan to join, generally accepted rule is that this may not be allowed to join the client unless 6 months are passed after you leave Slalom. But there are people who have switched. It's not a strictly defined rule, so one may have to read fine print before going that route. if its not a client, no issues in switching
It's generally encouraged. They would prefer to lose you to a client and then they have a ex slalom connection in that company which may lead to more contracts down the line. Haven't heard of any poaching rules or timelines.
There are two main portions of slalom: Local and Build. Local is more traditional consulting where you're more closely tied to the client and sometimes travel to the client site/work on client teams. Slalom Build is a new thing they rolled out a few years ago where we take on projects from clients and do everything inhouse. So your coworkers are generally all Slalom or atleast led by Slalom team leads/PMs. I'm in Slalom Build. Love the company, culture is great, WLB is top tier(I can get away with working 20~ hours a week), and the work is generally pretty good. We don't really take on dumpster fire projects and it's usually greenfield projects so lots of modern tech. We are a private company so employees come first. No one was laid off during covid and I doubt they would layoff anyone in a recession unless the company was in deep trouble somehow. Growth is pretty quick is you want it. Lots of opportunities to grow leadership skills once you hit Architect(next level above senior swe). You're basically leading projects at this point. The main downside is pay is pretty poor. I'm planning on hopping to tech strictly for this reason. I'll easily 2x my pay. Once you hit 5-6 years in the company and you've build good connections you may get invited to buy into slaloms private equity which is a 25k buy in. Seems pretty good since the company is growing really well. It's a great place if you just want to make a decent living and be surrounded by great people. If you're looking for top tier pay look elsewhere.
Thank you so much for the excellent details. Slalom Build sounds more interesting and aligned with my interests. Does Slalom hire H1Bs for Build Team?
No idea. I'd assume so
Consulting side here. Curious how your 20h / week impacts util?
Yep! What about it?
Received email for interview, so wanted to know how good company is?
Pretty good company as a consulting company.. meet some fun and talented people from that group
