In process for Snap L5 SDE; no offer yet. Any insight or feelings about culture, more stock growth, career growth, wlb, mgmt. Also what’s the perception on resume for life after snap? Seems well respected? Current TC: $280 (stock appreciation) #snap #snapchat
"Avoid" lol
Fwiw, I’ve heard really good things. Any insight you’d share about your experience? The only thing I’m worried about is the stocks crazy growth. If it comes down as fast as it’s gone up, that’s a bit scary
dont worry even if it drops 50% for L5 it will be still higher than your current TC with appreciation. Your base at snap will be that much, anything from stock will be the diff increase.
YOE?
5 YOE
The median L5 comp at Snap is 545k according to levels.fyi, so I would say unless the culture there is super shit (which you would probably hear about if it were), then that's tough to not "explore". In terms of reputation, I think that's about as high of a reputation as you can get for a 100B company. FANG teams for the most part have guaranteed high reputation but not as much career or comp growth potential.
Thanks for the response. I agree with everything you said. I’m fairly early in my career and still want the flexibility in the future to shop around at potentially other big tech companies. Having good names on the resume makes that a bit easier, so was wondering if snap is a place that like Google and fb would think highly of as well - the tc is a non-factor as i already knew snap pays top of market. Not a prestige think at all btw, but just want to be sure I’m building a good resume that sets me up for more success in the future.
Nice! Good luck with the interviews :) Hope it goes well and there are always exceptions but 5yoe usually doesn’t equal L5. However even the L4 comp should beat your current tc by quite a bit!
Good luck! Unless you are a senior already L5 will be a bit hard though.
Pay is definitely better, culture is team dependent just like Amazon. Can get quite stressful on some lower stack teams. Don’t expect there to be much learning, if that’s something important for you, particularly given you are early in your career - but then again that depends on the team as well. Product teams are generally more fun and rewarding.
Damn, I'm going to be joining the infra org and figured that it would be likely to have better WLB than product (at least that seems to be the case at other companies). Could you expand on that a little bit? I'm much more interested in platform type work over product at this point
I think you’re SDE2 at amzn? No way you’ll clear L5 at Snap.
Funny how these guys think that they can come work for Snap and double their TC. Bar is high here.
You guys are 100% correct. I had my levels mixed up completely. It’s L4 snap. I had Amazon level in mind. I realize the levels are wayyy different
