If I were you, I will stay at msft and keep applying to other companies. Not worth the total upheaval for the given offer

For as much as I wanted this to workout. I think that deep down I agree with you

Counting state tax and COL The TC seems same tbh. Not worth the move.

I was hoping to get L4 and then 300k+ TC but that didn't happen :(! They said that I could get a promotion within a year and that would get me there but I don't know if that's worth the risk?

Cisco lolpolilo Jan 25

The only reason I would even consider the move given your situation is - 1. If the work is more exciting at snap. 2. If you are tired of Seattle and want a place more fun to be at then definitely LA and NYC are the best options.

Go nyc

CA taxes alone along with cost of living and commute in LA traffic puts your current TC higher than snap. Then you start to talk about work life balance and in a company that’s become a rocket ship under Satya.. why would you even want to consider interviewing at god forsaken Evan’s bro clique club let alone considering joining?!

Def worth the risk, are you given those assurances in your current role, if no, then at least give snap a go.

Don’t move. Stay at MS and continue interviewing until finding a higher level and good comp. Snap comp isn’t better when you account for tax and cost of living. And before you ask, no it doesn’t worth the risk

The WLB at snap is horrible right now. They’re pushing and enforcing RTO very actively and aggressively- currently at 4 days/week heading to 5 by end of Q1. Tracking badge swipes and everything. Everyone’s expecting a layoff very soon. It’s true you have the ability to get a promotion, but it’s not likely to happen within a year .. especially w how “down to business” and “focus on profitability” they’re being. If you’re considering the offer seriously, be prepared to be in office 5 days a week, not expect a promotion for atleast 1 1/2-2 years, work A LOT, and act like covid never happened.

Thank you so much for the insight! I think you saying this kinda seals it. I'll look for something better

Snap a23z93c Jan 25

yeah it really sucks .. tbh there’s a good chunk who are waiting to get laid off and claim unemployment .. but there’s no cruising rn at snap … you’ll be overworked and sacrifice a lot of free time/personal life tell them when rejecting the offer, that their rto policy is too aggressive.. maybe if enough people reject then they’ll reconsider, idk 🤷🏻‍♂️

Isn't L61 a 10% average bonus? Are you an overperformer? How close to cliff at MS?

Microsoft eymeux267 OP Jan 25

Yeah I always get 15%! My team is filled with coaster it's so easy to exceed expectations

Google nroh37 Jan 25

My friend at Snap has been trying to get out due to WLB. He is thinking about staying cuz of the stock rebound though. Also MS 4 yr cliff sucks due to crap refreshers.

Micro soft for sure, I rip on it but they low key underrated over the past few years

Snap may be not stable and california is more expensive. But you should consider the following too. Moving to california is not that easy and you should try to move sooner for better growth. Microsoft has not a great reputation to be highly sought after. it might be hard to get another offer in this market. you are still young with only 3 yoe, so certainly should explore and take risk. Treat snap as a stepping stone to enter into some hot startups next.

How do you like your current situation at Microsoft? How do you like your personal life in Seattle? Does Snap present any learning opportunities that you desire? I’d use thos3 metrics to judge if you want to move
