Does anyone know how easy/difficult is it to move from level 4=>level 5 at Snap, either in old system or new. I am offered L4 and my current FB is at E5. I might bite the bullet and take lower level. But I know it would be easy for me to succeed in that role and move to next level. But I dont know internally how the promo works and if they promo mid-year
If they give me level 5, I will join tomorrow :D
is your offer better than current tc at fb?
Current TC is around 420K. The offer at Snap is in fact less than my FB TC with bonus etc. I mentioned to recruiter but they are not ready to budge or negotiate.
Don’t take it if TC is lower. Refreshers don’t stack anymore (unlike earlier) and you’ll need promo to increase TC. My hunch is promo could be easier than before but can still take ~2 years if you’re just joining.
Share your current TC.
Current TC is 420K
Don’t join as L4.
Congrats OP, I recently turned down FB to join Snap. Haven't looked back at all. Very happy with my decision.
let's revisit in a year. You are in a honeymoon phase.
True. But I don't think I'll ever join FB. I might just aim for Google or Netflix...maybe even Citadel Securities if I get tired with Snap.
Offer details OP
Same OP please share offer details. ESP 3 year or 4 year vest please
L4 > L5 is difficult. You should negotiate as much as you can right now.
Not really, if you work 3+ years as L4 you are expected to go to L5. L5 is the terminal level at Snap
I have 8 yoe + PhD with 4 yrs at FB and still they are not offering me L5
Not sure if L4 Snap maps to L5 FB anymore. What is the TC offered here? We recently changed our comp structure so no more stacking refreshers which you should account for before accepting
What's the new refresher policy?
Refresher will start after 3 years from date of allocation. So existing employees are good but joinees this year will be at a loss, especially if stock declines
Personally I dislike our new comp policy and relevel. You probably will earn less in next 3-4 years. I am reevaluating my current situation and probably will look for new opportunities in next 1-2 years although I just joined 6 months ago.
^ this is general sentiment across 2020 hires
How many years have you been working at snap? What’s your opinion on this comp change? I don’t think I am the only one who has this thought. The QA question reflects that.
Congrats OP, can I DM you?
Sure
Pinged you!

In old system, snap L4 did map to Fb E5 most of the times and it was not very easy to move to snap L5. In the new system, only time will tell how easy it is going to be. But IMHO, it will be easier to move to L5 in the new system. And in the future we are not sure if external E5/L5s will join as snap L4s. The reason I say this is that In the new system, snap is going to have the same number of levels as FB or google and levels start at L3. It will be very hard for snap to convince external L5s to take snap L4s in the future.
This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. So you had a leveling system where Snap L4 =~ G / FB E5 and changed that to something where Snap L4 =~ E4? What happened to all your current L4 and above? Did they move up after the change?
Management says the new snap L4s will have broader scope than external L4s, but I personally am skeptical about that. When it comes to current L4s, all of them(the ones I know) are pissed about the demotion, but hey snap pays well and we will still make good money. So essentially golden handcuffs even though we are dissatisfied with the new leveling.
