I'm a Junior with two previous internships at a large defense contractor, so a major consideration for me is ease of getting past resume screens for new grad positions. As it stands, I lean towards Snap as my FB for a couple reasons: wonderful interviewers (FB were robots), and better WLB/Culture from what I can tell. On the other hand, I wonder if taking FB will open more doors than Snap next year for new grad roles. If the difference is minimal, I will certainly take Snap. Looking for input from people in industry so appreciate all opinions! EDIT: Intern TC should never be a consideration, always think about next year. Snap 11.8k FB 10.5k both monthly. Both LA area.
tc or gtfo, go with snap
edited with offer amounts. dont care about the difference it's only one summer. as for new grad offers FB has more range due to intern perf signing bonus while snap has a high base but non-negotiable. So Snap is more consistent to negotiate other companies up next year.
Are you looking for aggressive career growth? FB will probably let you do that better than snap (worse y1/2 TC but better if you consider 4 years+quick promo) but otherwise Snap
As it stands I'd probably want to do 2-3 years at a company before considering a switch or more school. Still a lot of questions for me there and seeing how far I want to run the rat race.
Man I’ve worked at both and either are great choices. But for a new grad I’d have a preference for FB. They have a lot of resources for helping new grads onboard. There’s a lot of internal docs. Socially it’s a very fun time because there’s so many other young people and FB pays you to hang out with coworkers (once returning to office). The infra is very good, so you’ll learn a lot just by studying why things were done the way they are at FB. FB is much more structured and organized and that’s probably what a new grad needs. Not to mention, wasting time on Workplace (internal FB) is a lot of fun too lol.
This matters more than anything else. Having the right resources & support will help you set up for success.
Nice perspective. I assume Snap has a similar proportion of young people there just aren't as many since its a smaller company, though correct me if I'm wrong. Ideally I'd be able to get offers again next year for both companies, but I'll definitely keep this in mind when thinking about which return offer is better.
What team is FB for?
Unknown but LA so potentially reality labs
Nice and congrats! Both offers are really good. Do you know which one you’re going to take?
I don’t think WLB is something you really need to worry about as an intern. At worst it’s temporary.
Fair enough. It's more fear of unrealistic expectations for an intern, which has been described at FB though I'm sure as always its all about your team.
