~13 YOE and previously staff before being laid off. TC is not comparable but I will enjoy the work at MongoDB more, which is about a new business space they try to expand. Really being down level hard in this job search but still appreciate being offered a job in this market. Tried asking MongoDB if possible to interview more rounds for staff level but rejected. All oral offer so exact TC unknown yet. Will be roughly 500k+ for snap and 400k- for MongoDB. Primary concerns for snap 1. WLB 2. Quarterly perf review, stack ranking and PIP quota (needs some insider info to confirm this though) 3. Not much upside for the app itself 4. Fear of the potential next round of layoffs But what's traded is higher TC Primary concerns for mongo 1. Low TC and the vesting schedule (first vest will be in a year) 2. New business may fail, which may lead to layoffs 3. Do people still use MongoDB given NewSQL is taking off? MongoDB is supposed to have better WLB and I get to learn database better. Being a specialist is probably the way to go when getting older and older. I did not have much database experience before and I passed the interview really just by reading books. Thanks in advance! #snapchat #mongodb

Question about women in their 30’s?
Bro are you really considering snap? Wtf
Try harder next time
Simply because of the TC and prestige (heard hiring bar has been high despite all the coding questions I got are extremely easy).
Do what makes you happy, life's short. Take the MongoDB job.
It would have been a no brainer if getting staff level and the TC diff is < 50k. Also base-only compensation for the first year could be challenging to my current financial status. Hope I could get sign-on bonus to offset the first year comp gap. But I love this suggestion about doing whatever makes me happy. Thanks!
Assuming that u were Meta E6. Don't these companies offer staff?
I don't know :( Snap recruiter did not provide any specific reason despite keeping mentioning my interview performance is strong. MongoDB is more understandable since the role is quite specialized and requires 10 years of related experience to qualify staff.
Go to Snap. Our company has shit expanding products that feel like gambles, PMs are indecisive and take forever in providing direction, designers coast and produce bad designs, engineers seem to avoid doing any actual quality work until PIPed. Speaking of PIPs, we are now rolling out leadership principles to everyone. Executives want this place to be the next Amazon with high output. Our database is our bread and butter and we're just scrambling to make it a cloud platform to remain relevent. The truth is that someone with a better DB will come along and eat our lunch and we'll die in a decade for diluting our business with so many sub-par plans for future growth.
Good insider info, but, what makes you think Snap has anything offering longer term security?
Good point. I guess choose between whichever hell sounds more comfortable. I've been here a year and this place breeds apathy. No one gives a fuck, and it's a quiet kind of toxicity that will have you fighting to remain visible if you actually care about leveling up your skills and having impact. We need to lose about a third of staff in certain organizations.
Both of them have PIP culture btw lol. Pick your poison
Is DigitalOcean remote friendly? I was hoping to apply there.
Dang my snap offer got frozen last year due to hiring freeze. Should I reach out to my recruiter? Amazon has been too stressful for no reason. All my manager chain keeps asking me to do a project like it should’ve been done 10 years ago and they all act like their own managers have a gun to their head.
I say reach out
Do snap. Mongodb is now amazon and does stack ranking and enforced pips without severance

Lowering the bar just for you lol
NewSQL taking off?
Heads up with Mongo RSUs, to add to your existing concern... They enroll people quarterly, meaning you can wait up to 3 months before you get on the plan, and then your first vest is a year after that date. At least that was the case when I started.
Is snap l5 or l4?
Was leveled at L5 which looks like senior but my understanding could be wrong.
👋 🐶 Love your username. L5 at snap is equivalent to L6 at other places according to FYI and the TC. Congrats on both offers. I too think Mongo is too risky and you can always learn DB at snap. It’s not rocket science but “detailed” science IMHO. Take one that has more cash especially cash in a month instead of in a year
