I have an offer from snapchat. I am currently at FB but the reason I am leaving is because my manager has made my life hell and not letting me transfer to another team. Should I join snapchat? I'm interested to know more about their Venice office culture, performance reviews and employee sentiment within the company. I have a family (3 kids) Please also advice on your thoughts - should I join or not? Thanks!
Come to Apple
I would highly suggest not taking it. Facebook is a much better company with a much brighter future. DM me if you want more infos.
Strongly disagree with this “snapchat employee” above. All strong performers I know love it here. But hey, talk to real people in real life, you know :)
The standard line that these "Snapchat employees" take is to try to pretend anyone who disagrees with them doesn't even work at the company. That should be a red flag in itself. You would know I'm a real employee if you read the company boards. Either that or I'm some kind of mind freak knowing who gets hired exactly when the new hire emails go out. Come on man. You posted on like 10 different anti-Snap posts with some shit that wreaks that you are working in HR. Try harder. You remind me of CmdcCmdv (known HR).
You might see even worse managers here. Chances are very high for that to happen. LA is not a place to bring up kids and also not a place for software engineers. You'll not be able to transfer to Bay Area within Snap in case you have plans to do that in future as that is a very sensitive topic inside the company.
You mean managers can block internal team transfers in FB??? Then what difference is that from Amzn and Msft?
Managers can not only block transfers (they openly do) but they make it a point to end people's careers by putting them through mental torture and getting HR to function beyond policy's. FB is not the same company anymore. The people that have been here for 5+ years operate with immunity and are untouchable. The whole chain of command is cruising by sheltering each other. HR is in their back pocket and ineffective at most. There is no help that can be expected from them. I am a victim of this along with many others who are afraid to speak.
Sounds exactly how it's done at Snap too.
Why not try google/apple? Layoffs are happening in Snap!
Snap is amazing if you have a good team, which I do
I'm taking the plunge myself and with a family in tow as well. We are kicking off our relo process but hoping it'll all be worth it. Having a bad manager and no exit is plenty of reason to move on!
Will you mind sharing how the offer is?Are the RSUs lower compared to the pre-IPO time?
+1 I am shocked to hear this culture from FB. Can other FB people comment? How common is this?
Why not try google? Layoffs are happening in Snap and I don’t think they have a good product market fit
I am also interviewing with them but they take a very long time to go through the whole process. I had the opportunity to meet the Seattle team (mostly x-FB guys) and the Venice team and they all seemed optimistic about the role and the company. I would love to hear from currently snapchat employees.
Are you not interested in Uber or Airbnb? They have more upside than Snap
