https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/13/doordash-releases-s-1-for-ipo.html DoorDash lost a total of $149 million in 2020, a company that is spending every last dollar to expand. Yet Uber lost 5 billion so far this year, and Lyft at 1 or 2 billion as well. Does anyone find this incredible? Is DoorDash really figuring out how to make money from this business (149 million sounds like a lot, but compare that to 5 BILLION). They are leading the market and still expanding. Is Uber and Lyft really mismanaged?
Not sure about Lyft, but Uber has a global presence in over 600+ cities, along with ATG, Frieght, Rideshare and Eats. With a global presence comes with more cost for ops and local marketing. Uber has been trying to centralize those two things, along with reducing engineering bloat
100% Uber and DoorDash are two different. Uber is a beast that is setting the standard.
global presence, bigger market, higher revenue would offset the fixed cost and help company to generate profits. If that is not happening then there is clearly something wrong with the business strategy.
I don’t get the marketshare numbers... doordash made ~1.9 billion in revenue for all of 9 months and Uber eats did this alone in last quarter and how does doordash have double the marketshare as Uber eats.?
Maybe just the US market? UberEats is around the globe
That’s like Uber eats getting 2 times more revenue from around the world than in USA and even then it has same marketshare as DoorDash, which itself is questionable.... the data doesn’t make sense
Read through uber's q2 results to understand 5B
Uber Eats only (direct comparison) lost 750M in the first 3 quarters.
Across probably 10s of countries over 2 of doordash. Uber operates in 600+ cities, not sure if it is fair to compare.
Bruh, we brought postmates for like 2.7b do some research before posting misleading titles like this. Also, we're more than just food delivery. Also, we are in over 600 cities around the globe. Also, we have an actual R&D division (ATG) whereas doordash doesn't invest in the future.
Is atg even doing anything? Last I heard Uber was planning to sell it off
Doordash focused there efforts on better operational efficency (better "dasher" experience) while partnering with self driving companies (though they also purchased one last year). So while the rest of what you say might be true i think they do invest in r&d
Doordash has positive ebitda since COVID-19, question is if they’ll be able to maintain their top line going past COVID-19. You’ll have to adjust the financials across the Uber and DD to understand the segment contribution margins and ebitda margins to compare, not just lazily reading net income
Uber rides were hit very badly due to pandemic. So uber vs doordash is not a good comparison.
Is it safe for a new grad to join Lyft🤔
they just announced another round of layoffs yesterday, let that sink in.
Lyft announced layoffs? Where?
Neither will make it long term. Between legislation and social wokeness, they won’t financially make it. I give them both 5 yrs
You think people are woke enough to not order delivery food?
No. I think people won’t pay $10/delivery enough time when these companies realize they can’t turn a profit otherwise
You should be comparing Uber eats to DoorDash. Lyft doesn’t even deliver
Yet 😬
Lol , yeah those overpaid engineers in ATG cost them dearly.
What's ATG?
Selfdriving department of Uber that achieved nothing
