I have worked for a couple of companies so far, but the one I am currently working for is a bit strange... It is a fairly small company and people are familiar with each other. One of my coworkers actually brings a handgun to work everyday, playing with the gun, talking about ammos and shooting stuff during the break or after work. Is there any law about carrying a gun at a workplace? Although I know this person is very kind, but i feel very uncomfortable about this.
Nothing wrong with having it, definitely shouldn’t be “playing” with it
Why dont you talk to them, and learn why they carry it?
Not really a gun person, I try to avoid those things as much as possible.
Then how will they know how you feel, and how will you know how they reason? We often fear that which we dont understand.
Whoever owns the property gets to decide, but really, i wonder what kind of insurance the owner has because usually they have clauses that forbid bringing weapons to work. For obvious reasons. If he’s “playing” with the gun like taking it out and fucking with it, i would tell whoever your manager or boss is that it is opening them up to liability, you dont deholster and fuck around with a gun at work unless you’re a gun shop owner or gun smith, even then I’d be spooked if they did it right in front of me while its loaded. If they sweep you with the barrel (like wave it around and it somehow ends up pointed in your direction) thats actually bordering on a crime if it isn’t already where you are. This could draw you heat though, i personally don’t care who brings what to work, not like we have pat-downs anyway, anyone could bring shit if they want for ill purposes or otherwise, but if hes really “playing” with the gun that enters an entirely different territory. My point is though, that like with any other workspace dispute if you’re the only one complaining it may cause issues. I do need you to elaborate on what “playing” with it constitutes though, that changes the context of this entire conversation.
I have definitely seen ammo before. In terms of the firearm itself, I have seen, for many times, an object that looked like a gun without the holster. Some people told me that one time it was a toy gun, but not so sure about other occasions.
There is this thing called freedom in United States. Your co worker is free to exercise his hobby. You are free to choose a different company.
He is not free to exercise his hobby at work. Calm down, Captain America.
i dont care if he brings a gun to work, but if hes playing with it at work, thats a different story.
Well guys what I am saying is true. I am not going to disclose the company’s name. I just want to confirm that I am not being extra paranoid... and maybe someone can tell me what actually the rules are and how to handle cases like this.
It is up to the employer in most states http://aliengearholsters.com/blog/workplace-concealed-carry/
Talk to your HR representative, there is no blanket statement that is true for all 50 states
There is absolutely nothing with them owning a gun and concealed carrying it. Everything wrong with them playing with it during work
Murica!
I wish I could carry at work.
They don't have metal detectors at MS do they? Carry compact & concealed. Not a problem. Lord knows you'll need it with all the TDS wackos roaming the halls. It's only a matter of time before the Russia illusion breaks and they snap.
Policy, tho.
If your employer doesn't discourage this I'd find a different job. This it seems like a trigger away from a shooting and he is too immature to carry if he plays around with it.
Please consider telling us the name of the company so that we never ever even consider applying for a job there
"We" should be "you".
Fair enough
