Hey blinders. Any input on my offer comparison I live in a low COL place so I don’t have a good understanding of COL differences and the websites I’ve used sometimes contradict each other Offer 1: Boeing $88k +$5k signing bonus. (not negotiable) 401k: 3% free plus 8% matching 80k after 401k deduction 3% raise annually Location: Huntington Beach vs IBM Offer 2. $108.6k + $10k signing bonus (They seem willing to negotiate both) 401k: 1% free plus 5%match (after a year) 103k after 401k deduction No annual raise. Location: San Jose Naturally I feel like the $20k difference makes it obvious but I don’t know if I’m just being shocked at sticker price. Any ideas on a good number to aim for in the second offer? Thanks for reading. If you’ve done a similar comparison before or have any advice/input comment away #firmware #embedded TC: N/A YOE: N/A
I vote for sj, huntington beach is better at the moment but sj more important for your future. If you are confident in lc, go huntington beach tho, better place for new grad
Could you explain the point about being good in LC?
Yeah I mean more like you can transition easily from hb -> sj if you are better in lc, and sj gives you better TC at the higher levels. But being in sj generally gives you more connections so you don't have to worry about lc as much because you'll get more referrals and stuff. Go with hc if you can ultimately transition to sj in the future imo
The cost of living in SJ from HB is at least 25-35% higher. In the long run, you will likely have more and higher paying opportunities in the Bay. That being said, you can always try out SoCal and move to NorCal if an opportunity presents itself later. Imo, both are very livable. You should consider other non-monetary factors such as career growth, company growth, mentorship, and leisure activities. Dating is better in SoCal (it’s called Man Jose for a reason).
That’s what I’m saying Smfh. Like did I just graduate from a sausage fest of engineering only to go to another one 😂😂
It’s gonna be a fest hereon out. Make the most of your early 20s while you can. You’ve got your whole life to grind if you want.
SJ if you’re thinking/planning long term.
Yeah. I feel like like long term SJ is a better place to start in terms of connections etc.
I was born and grew up in San Jose, and went to college in the East bay. I lived in south OC for a good 5 years as well. OC is paradise compared to the Bay Area IMO but the bay will be better for your career.
SJ and drive down to OC every weekend. Flights sometimes are cheap too.

Is 2.5M enough to retire in Bay Area?
Include a poll. I will vote for Huntington Beach.
Done. What’s your reasoning?
Much better lifestyle and multicultural social scene. So many cool things to do..diverse and economical food scene. Enjoy for a few years and then switch.
