Wondering how people like working at Sofi. Potentially considering an offer from them. What’s the promotion cycle like? Can it be a few months? Also can you request MacBooks for work?
It‘s rough. Lots of reorgs recently. Teams are asked to do a lot with few engineers. Morale is not the best, most people are just sticking around for IPO. Promotion cycle is TBD as they are going through “recalibration”. Managers submit people for promos to committee. If someone doesn’t like you, you probably won’t get promoted. There is some favoritism there and politics. You have to be here at least a year to get promoted. Very difficult to get promoted early unless you came in at lower level and have other offers to leave. Yes you can request MacBooks.
Had a really bad interview experience where the recruiters kept on switching and rescheduling my interviews last minute. The interviews themselves were pretty easy (LC medium, standard system design). One interviewer came into the interview implying that I wasn’t qualified for the position even before asking me any questions. Attitude was very egotistical, mentioned he was an ex-googler at least 5 times, which seemed pretty unnecessary. Felt like he was trying to sell google to me, not sofi. From anecdotal evidence, everything seems like a mess. All products are siloed and there is no consistent engineering culture. Engineers all report to product which seems like a red flag and is probably why promotions are all political. I got an offer but chose not to go because of my interview experience/reviews on blind. But if the TC is high enough and you can play the politics, I say go for it.
You are spot on. I am impressed by how you see these things through by just the interviews. If they are any good they wouldn’t have to sell themselves as ex this and ex that. Which product team did you interview?
Invest but a manager also mentioned that I could work on their loans product
Would you please share the offer details?
The culture is based on the individual leading ENGINEERING who was also fired from Uber, Amazon and Microsoft. That is the culture of that startup.
I don't know about the current culture yet, but I can confirm they will pay for top talent. I'm leaving Google for Sofi this week. They beat my already high Google comp on every dimension.
@iluJ can you share what tc they offered? What level are you? Engineering?
The positive Glassdoor reviews are mostly faked to counter the real ones as soon as they occur. Now HR noticed there are even more honest ones on Blind, they post fake ones here too.
I really like to company vision which is to do everything with money - culture is open and transparent with Ceo level all hands every week, people Listen, empathize and connect well, no single person agenda - help as a team, collaborative , 4 weeks vacation on day one, Mac is easy, promo is twice a year and depends on your capability- not time bound on a role. Good luck!
You either are in another part of the multiverse at a very different Sofi or you are Assaf, and you genuinely believe what you say to be true in your own mind. Or you are just a recruiter.
