Got offer at SoFi for staff SWE, originally was interviewing for senior staff SWE. TC would be a huge downgrade from where I am at, but recruiter has indicated a willingness to increase the offer and even said that they expected me to not accept the base offer based on the fact that I am L5 at Google. Any experience negotiating the offer or pushing for that senior staff leveling? Offer: $220k base 15% bonus $500k/4 stock Recruiter said Sign-on/Relo TBD based on my counter #sofi
Current tc? Why did they downlevel? I wouldn’t take a downlevel ever, disrespectful but to each their own
Leveling is different between different companies, they downleveled based on what I interviewed for, I am not sure if its downlevel based on where I am (L5 Google). Current TC is $200k base, 15% bonus, and about $200-220k stock/year based on recent Google prices.
So to clarify - it was a senior staff position and they pre-down leveled you by setting you up on a Staff loop?
I would be offended if a recruiter said that to me. Why are you wasting my time if you know I’m not going to accept this offer? Huge red flag IMO
Yeah that's fair, I am not that interested in them anyways, I did their onsite first as practice and have 8 other onsites I'm currently going through. Guess I should just say senior staff or no thanks.
Ya do that or ask for 800k/4 stocks and 240 base I think those are doable based on levels.fyi numbers
Bizarre they’d cop to lowballing from the jump
Yeah I mentioned Levels.FYI data which has many higher data points and he said that those are all lower than what he can offer. Very strange negotiator for sure....
After all the comments here, I decided to outright decline the offer instead of negotiating at all. One less thing to worry about, and that gives them the chance to move on as well.
I got the same offer as you for SoFi staff. They gave me this as their max offer to a $430k Dropbox counter offer: 230k base 15% bonus 600k RSU 15k sign on
Basically, they matched the Dropbox offer.Did you negotiate multiple times with them ?
No, they maxed out in one shot. Dropbox is recurring and has more benefits though so that's what I signed.
This is what I got for staff offer form Sofi after a short bid of negotiating. But equity was 530K and they added 20K sign on
Like I said, this was explicitly mentioned by the recruiter as a starting point and did not include relo or sign on.
How was your interview experience OP ? Was it LC style or more practical ?
Can you share interview experience? I interview on Friday. My first on-site in 3 years and kind of worried.
What was the interview process like. I just applied for a Senior staff software engineer role.
That staff offer is less than Uber L5a senior, I wouldn’t even negotiate, just tell them no
Yeah i am currently in the process with many other companies (including Uber, but they are dragging their feet because they claim there are no Bar Raisers available until March) and he basically said come back to me with a counter offer and we will try to match. I definitely wouldn't accept anything under like $520-550k TC to join SoFi so I really doubt they can offer that unless they offer the senior staff. The only reason I didn't flat out say no is that they said that is the base senior staff offer and they are willing to place me "at the top of the band" but want me to take the first step.
An email like this should suffice “Team SoFi: While I am excited about the prospect of working on XXX, the numbers simply don’t add up enough for me to leave Google. You asked for a counteroffer; this style of negotiation is not something I partake in, if a company I like counter-offers what I am worth I will simply accept. The title I am interested in is “Senior Staff” and my salary requirement is $550k/year. Given my extreme interest in SoFi I am willing to accept a lower “Staff” title and $520k/year at a minimum. If you ever choose to meet me there I will gladly accept. Currently your offer is below this and sadly for now I must decline.” Ciao
