I have an option for sofi seattle vs saltlake city. I am expecting new offer in few days for staff engineer. Slc salary - ~ 300k Seattle salary - 375 k Which should be better place . I am inclined toward slc as i want to buy house. But i am concerned about my growth at slc compared to seattle. Also slc has less companies so that would be an issue for future.
SLC has state income tax, so you're taking close to 90-100k lower pay in SLC compared to Seattle. If buying a house is your preference, sure go with SLC since most good neighborhoods in Seattle are now 1 million+. But know that SLC good neighborhoods are also going to be around 700k now (for a much bigger house though).. and at that price you may still be able to get townhomes in Seattle.
SLC has far fewer options for external growth. Also SLC housing is not nearly as cheap as it used to be. Up something like 45% versus pre-pandemic.
Current tc ? What level at msft ? How was interview process ?
Around 220 in msft
I would recommend staying closer to where your team is, if you enjoy hanging out with colleagues and attending team events. Some teams have good presence in Seattle and often do morale events - that said Seattle office is pretty small and parking is always a pain.
Team is scattered across sfo, slc and i will be in seattle. I can use bus/metro to travel. Will i get a space easily in seattle
You will be just fine. DM if you want to connect and learn more.
