Context: 2 YOE, no MBA, tech consulting, no kids, single, mid 20s. Got an Econ degree from non target and with a crap ton of consulting internships under my belt. Straight out of college got one offer from Amazon for SA and another for McKinsey but not in consulting so I didn’t take it… also amazons offer was $50k more. SAs or Sales Engineers are essentially tech consultants and I kinda fell into the tech world without knowing what it was. Don’t hate it don’t love it. Before Amazon I was hell bent on MBB management consulting and kind of still am. Not afraid of hard work and my end goal is PE. Yes the pay is good at FAANG straight out of college. But your ability to multiply your income in a short amount of time is nothing compared to MBB and PE. My questions: 1. At what “level” would I be at McKinsey? Without an MBA? 2. Would McKinsey or MBB really pay for your MBA? 3. If I make this move to MBB, then do B school after a year, then after some time try to get into PE. How many years away am I from $300k TC?
based on your communication skill, I don't suggest you ever think of going MBB
What part of my post did you not understand? We’re not writing dissertations here… this is social media 🤡
1. youd be at level 0 which is not employed at MBB without an MBA this point of your career 2. MBB does offer sponsorship but you need to be employed at MBB for that to happen. See point 1. 3. Youre not getting into MBB at the undergrad level. Youve missed that boat. you need to be at T15 MBA then probably need 4-6 years of shit eating at MBB if youre lucky. Tech Consulting is not consulting. its all implementation work which is not even remote close to "consulting"
Appreciate your bluntness! I know of a few who’ve made that jump pre MBA but it doesn’t seem to be an easy thing to do
I did. Joined McKinsey from Salesforce but at Expert level. DM if you like.
I knew it was possible. Seems to be a rare move. Evidently so rare that people think it’s a ridiculous question. Thanks for offering up your time. I’ll definitely reach out!
I am confused because the ammont of acronyms in it. This is a long post, I think you can afford not to have so many acronyms.
If you don’t know what those acronyms mean then you’re not qualified to answer the question. No hate just is what it is
