I've heard about parents in places like Cupertino and Palo Alto sending their kids to private schools, why do you do that? This is an added expense for a comparable quality of education or am I mistakenly assuming something here? Also which (private) schools are these?
Idiocy
No there is something else going on, maybe its ratios, schedules, certain programs 🤔
Private school is better for them and they can afford it. Good schools is not only about scores. I wouldn’t want my kid to be in Cupertino schools.
What's wrong with Cupertino schools? Genuinely curious
Because they have the money to burn and crave the chance to mention in small talk that their kid goes to private
At McK we have a lot of private school Chumps... oops I mean champs. It’s a network, your also probably get smaller student to teacher ratios, some schools have special sports like crew/equestrian etc that you don’t get at public schools, it’s also signaling, it can sometimes mean a better and easier route to top schools, there are many reasons even in places like Palo Alto / chicken coopertino why kids may go to private school.. Me I’m all about that public school thug life, but after what I’ve seen, of course I’d send my kids to private if I have the cash..
Suppose you had the money to blow, why wouldn’t you? You get to meet parents who can also afford to send kids there. The kids make friends with children of said parents. Any get-together is now filled with sufficiently powerful people. Your kids are likely guaranteed admission into their next private high school. There, your kids will be surrounded by likely high-achieving kids with powerful parents. They’ll learn how to get into top universities
Same applies to high achieving public schools of Palo Alto where the singular focus is to get into top universities (except the powerful bit)
Some parents don't want their kids to be indoctrinated with liberal values in public schools.
You haven’t considered the more pragmatic rationale for this decision. These kids in private skls make friends who have a similar background to them and are often powerful connections to have down the line. These connections open up avenues of opportunity.
So networking? At elementary and middle schools?
No Networking starts in your womb. Yes of course, lifelong business partners, friends and connections are often built that way.
At the end of the day, most money is made in sales. Good Connections make it easy to generate sales.
Because their kids have problems getting in UC.
Whose kids? Public schools in Cupertino, Palo Alto, Saratoga and Fremont send many kids to UCs

Status!
There are cheaper and more effective ways to flaunt status
Yes there are but that’s from your perspective. If people want to do that it’s often because of a lot of reasons. Maybe it is just a status thing to them. It could also be that they believe that private education is going to be beneficial to their kids in the future not just because of the teaching methods but because of potential social opportunities. Not saying that this is correct but it’s all a matter of perception from the parents point of view. Things like a kids education are rarely viewed through a logical lens. Parents want the best for their kids and that is often tinted but their own life experience and world view. So even if they live in an area with the best public schools ever, they might still believe that a private school education might be better tailored to their kids needs
