Integrate point-of-sale with payment system. Oh, I spent $200 at Costco two weeks ago, but what did I spend it on? Why can't even Starbucks solve this with their app? There is no way for me to figure out how much I spent in food in any given month without itemizing by hand.
Amazon has, just slowly rolling it out.

Customer spend is crazy valuable for the retailer. Easist way would be to snap a pic of the receipt and ocr the data.
There are services where you can physically mail a box of receipts and they will scan them all. Not sure about automatically doing OCR and parsing the data.
