Sourcing manager career path
I'm starting a role in sourcing after 11yoe in npi manufacturing and supply chain IT. I would like to work for an EV company some day. Is strategic sourcing/procurement a good way to get in if I get in some experience at legacy tier1 oem supplier? Has anyone here taken this path or is it better to shoot for tech hardware sourcing roles for better TC? Just wondering if it's a fool's errand to chase TC in the auto industry and instead try to switch to ev or tech.. #auto #sourcing #supplychain #tc
The bad news: sourcing manager comp is pretty mediocre at a working level, and automotive isn’t known for lavish salaries, especially at Tier1 and OEM. The good news: we’re still dealing with the impacts of the EV transition and trade war, which means there is very important work to be done in automotive supply chain. That means the path up to COO and ability to make meaningful contributions to a large business is possible.
