I am expecting an offer from SpaceX for Senior Software Engineer for LA office. I am looking at rental accommodations starting Jan as rents are at lowest and will start climbing going in summer 2021. Where do majority SpaceX LA office employees usually live pre-pandemic ?
Santa Monica, Manhattan beach, marina del Rey
Redondo or Torrance for more reasonable rent
Southbay is very expensive because everything around is the hood. Shit even what you can afford isn’t even worth it in Southbay tbh. Your options are Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa/ Manhattan beach. I really recommend Redondo. If you haven’t been in LA traffic before don’t go outside of those areas it’s not worth the commute time.
I'm in Hermosa Beach, any of the beach cities are popular, Santa Monica is good (you go against traffic so commute isn't bad), Redondo is popular, Culver City, some love Marina Del Rey but it's too cookie cutter for me, Venice if you like that vibe 🤷. Stay out of Hawthorne, Compton, etc
Compton is ghetto. How’s Hawthorne and Gardena ? I see lot of nee gated communities.
I personally don't know anybody who lives in the gates communities in those cities (not saying it's bad, just don't know anybody) but I feel like you would be so far away from the beach and all the good bars/stuff to do. Gardena is very similar to Hawthorne, I probably wouldn't feel safe walking around at night (I am female so I might be a little biased) and would personally stick to the cities I listed above.
