Applied to the SWE II position at DoorDash on the real-time streaming platform team, given I worked on real-time streaming pipelines at my last job with Apache Flink, and I have met the 2+ YoE experience, I figured with a cover letter, I'd be a strong fit. I did the submission last night and got the rejection this morning. What's the deal with recruiting teams? M.Sc. in Computer Science and 3 YoE #software #swe #application Currently unemployed
Your mistake is cover letter. I think people who upload cover letter automatically fail personality interview for being try hards. Only resume is needed.
lmaooo
Not true AT ALL I applied directly on doordash/careers simply uploaded resume and clicked submit… 3 days later REJECT lol But on 4th day DoorDash recruiter messaged on LinkedIn regarding another job opening (which I didn’t even know about). I am a generalist backend swe so it’s not like I fit that new job more. Moral of the story: nobody knows what’s going on. It’s random.
They may have filters for certain companies. Maybe try to get a referral?
Very hostile job market, it’s unrelated to whether you submitted a cover letter or not
Nobody reads cover letters.
It is better if you can get a referral.
Don’t waste time on cover letters. That time is better spent on sending out more apps or interview-prep.
Agree, this is the first and last time I'm probably doing a cover letter, it's just fucking frustrating to not even get a phone screen when I meet all the requirements. Very few people have Apache Flink experience. I just wish I could get feedback on the rejection, was it the resume, experience, cv, etc.
^ for resume review post it on reddit/cscareerquestions Omit your personal info. I’ve seen a lot of resume feedback there.
