I got offers from Spotify and Bloomberg. Please see below for the TC from both the firms. YOE - 5.4 years Spotify Senior Software Engineer Base : 215k RSU : 200k for 4 years TC per annum : 265k Bloomberg Senior Software Engineer Base : 215k Target Bonus : 50k per year Joining Bonus : 20k TC : 265k per annum with joining bonus as 20k What do you folks think ? Any thoughts on why one is better than other? #tech #Spotify #bloomberg
Bloomberg is a very stable company. No layoffs how bad the market does. Good work life balance and good money. Con is mostly the tech stack. The legacy tech stack is not any helpful on your career. I am surprise Spotify matched the offer but overall the company in long term won’t match Bloomberg compensation at all. Go there only if you are passionate about their work. If I were in the spot. I would pick Bloomberg over Spotify. Use the bonus to invest in Spotify stock.
How was the Spotify interview?
It was easy to medium level. One notch below the Bloomberg interview.
Do you mind sharing the type of questions you received from Spotify? String base, array base, graph etc
Bloomberg tech is highly team dependent, some teams have really modern tech stacks and on others you will be working on code from the 1980s
Yes, agreed. How is Bloomberg's compensation based on your experience? Also, how does target bonus work? Has there been situations when one will not be paid 100 percent of the bonus , even though the person performed well.
You’re practically guaranteed your 100% bonus unless you are on a dev plan (which is rare in general, and I mean rare). If you performed well you can get more than 100% of your target bonus (it’s a funny number but 102% is common)
That will never happen. Allways 100% bonus unless u fucked up
I’ve been to both. I think this is one of the higher Spotify offers. If you’re gonna spend 2 years at a company or something, Spotify is better. If you want to retire then Bloomberg is probably better. 2 years because raises at Spotify are generally lower than at bbg. Tech is definitely better at Spotify and more ... “mainstream”. If you’re into fintech and more C++ then bbg.
Tech at Bloomberg is not what ppl say. It is team dependent and I am sure it's like that there too. Tech at Bloomberg has become really modern and open source
Spotify. BBG has no stock and most teams have sh**ty tech. I'm trying to move teams or companies because of that. Don't even consider it
Bloomberg. And use Spotify’s joining bonus offer to negotiate the same with them.
Bloomberg. Although i am surprised i always thought tech companies like Spotify can pay hell more given that they have RSUs.
YOE? Spotify looks better because of remote
Updated. Spotify has remote opportunity but I would want to go and work at their NYC office.
