Start date at Google

Just heard I have an offer from Google. Question here is when should I make my start date for. The team at my current gig are getting laid off on Sept 30, if I were to stay until that date I’d receive 3.5 mo severance. How should I approach this subject with recruiter during this part of the process? Or is it not worth it? (I should be hearing numbers tomorrow but know the offer is for Senior Interaction Designer - L5).

Would they even know if you don’t come in??

But honestly it’s not worth it

From what I’ve heard googles pretty flexible with start dates. I’d probably mention that I wanted a later start date for personal reasons and see how that goes without going into specifics. Ofc you’d also need to trade off how much money you’re losing by not joining google for those 3.5 mo vs the severance pay you’d receive, so it might not even be worth it purely financially.

Many companies have an offer that’s good until a certain date. Just tell them that you have a project that wraps up on Sep 30 and you want to start then.
