I was the 13th Employee and joined a startup before series A. I got .7 equity. After series A, it has become around .4. Does the initial equity (.7) sound fair?
0.4% of something sounds more fair than 0.7% of nothing. Don’t you think?
Of course. The dilution is fair and expected. I was curious about the initial pre series equity given the stage at which I joined. Sorry for the confusion - edited the post.
Well, the fairness factor is 100% subjective based on the founders perception of your potential contribution. It's hard to say what is fair. I've seen initial offerings ranging from 0.1% to 5% for startups < 20ppl
How much have you contributed to the success? More or less than that value?
You don't mention YoE, if you have specialized background, etc. It could be generous or unfair for all we know. Initial of 0.7% seems alright for non senior generalist engineer.
I had 3+ years of experience at one of the FANGs and joined as a generalist software engineer.
Sounds pretty fair given that info, as long as you are making enough base to get by
For more context, I had 3+ years of experience at one of the FANGs and joined as a generalist senior software engineer.
.5% is pretty standard with a four year vest from what I know given your role. So seems good unless you worked 100hr/wk for the last 2 years.
No, I didn’t have to work any insane hours. The work life balance has been pretty good.

Why do Indians support Israel so much( on blind surprisingly) when Israel really thinks 💩of them ?
Dilution is how funding works.
Sorry - I didn't clearly ask my question. I was more curious about the fairness of the initial pre-Series A equity (dilution is fine and as you said, expected). I have edited the question to fix it.
