What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I’m an 30 yo female with a partner. Been at Snap and other big tech companies for a while. I want to work at an early startup before having kids to grow faster as an engineer. I think I’d be hard to navigate startups with small children, but not sure if this correct. Is there any good startups with good maternity leave? Should I take maternity leave at Snap then join a startup later? YOE: 5 TC: 400k
lol, US in general does not have good motherhood protection. If you want to bond with a child you have to relocate to northern europe - you will get at least 1y.
Later you won't get time to work. Do it now.
If you’re talking 100% paid maternity leave for 5+ months at a Startup… I suspect you’re going to be disappointed. From everyone I’ve talked to at startups in SF over the years this definitely seems to be a FAANG / billion $ tech revenue kind of benefit in the US. I recently completed 6 months of paid maternity leave myself. Startups are experiencing a more challenging capital raise environment right now, unless they’re firmly on the AI bandwagon. And so for those startups not on that bandwagon, a lot of cost cutting measures are being sought out. Paying out paid maternity leave from their own coffers without being profitable in the eyes of investors is zero sum. I’m willing to wager at most you could exercise your right to FMLA (unpaid) or in California, the California Paid Family Leave Program + CFRA. With the former (in California) you would get 8 weeks of partial paid leave.
How’s snap as a company ? Is the work culture super stressful. Might join soon, so curious. Sorry not helpful to your question. But ebay has a pretty generous parental leave policy
Snap is quite toxic and very stressful. We have 4 day RTO, stack ranking with quarterly performance reviews. Folks at Snap are mostly Chinese on visas and are good at grinding, so be prepared to work 10+ hrs a day for a Meet rating, with no bonuses
Snap has become TikTok, just with more American women and struggling efforts to stay competitive. Sales team sucks. That’s the real problem.
the mat leave at Snap is good and all the family friendly benefits and they give you a baby box with snap branded baby gears. You def wanna go on Mat leave with Snap first (6months with RTW program and they give you a Snoo rental too! I found it so helpful during my leave)
This is helpful. Thank you
What’s snoo rental?
My current startup offers 5 month fully paid / vest mat leave- feel free to dm me. Managavle w infant/ toddler.
What do you define as good parental leave? 2 months?
5+ months
Leave workforce for at least a year, if you’re an sde you’ll make it back. Don’t put your baby to a daycare at 6m, it is an extreme stress for a newborn. You will thank me later.
