Should I find a better paying job? • Work in analytics 25-30 hours a week at tech firm in TX • Not a lot of oversight. Sometimes I work more • Can get away with a lot of things • Job is getting boring and motivation dying. Not learning a lot but can start my own projects whenever and learn. • Direct a team that does most of my work for me. • Decent coder • Politics delaying promotion for 6 months • TC: 95k • YoE: 3-4
For SWEs your market rate might be a little higher like 115K with 3 years experience given Texas but it depends. Hard to say with this information.
Note that was for average
Depends how much you value your time. A part time job that basically pays 100k is my dream honestly.
Yeah, I do value it a lot honestly. Would be nice for market value salary considering I bring a lot of value and manage half a dozen people. I do want to accelerate my savings though. Tough decision.
I've jumped jobs 3 times for higher TC. Higher TC means you're probably going to work harder. A lot of people can handle it. I can't. I left an easy lower paying job for a harder higher paying job and wish I could go back all the time. You have a lot of time to figure out what you want. There is no bad decisions but remember to reflect on what you value.
Accelerate your savings with a side gig since you have so much free time
Yeah do freelancing and stuff
100K in Texas is like 180K in Bay Area but you’re working 25 hours a week which means it’s more like 250K equivalent Kind of seems like a great gig. Travel, hobbies etc
100K != 180K in bay
Yeah it’s more like 300+
I work like 35hrs a week very laid back workplace, Yoe - 3 making 130k, leetcoding and interviewing now, I wanna make 180k in TX, also 3 yrs at one company is more than enough IMO we gotta see what's out there.
Agreed. Life is short. I have the luxury to find my next opportunity in no rush. Need to find a better company where I don’t have to work a lot of hours but is still a good job. Need to get into leet coding.
Would be a tough call... I love money but if you’re comfortable why move
I hear ya. Just don’t wanna be left behind in the market if I’m not learning much. Kinda on me.
With those hours you could focus on other things that bring you money. Pretty awesome gig to be honest.
There were people making 95k in TX as SWE in 1999
Damn. Well, I’m just an analyst really. But my TC sucks. No rent though.
