Where should I go? - I am a new father so work life balance is important. I want to spend some time with my son and help my wife. - I want to continue to learn and be challenged. I want myself to be marketable and have good job security for my family - My resume looks like Masters degree in CS (sometimes counts towards job experience) Job 1: 1 year Job 2: 2 years Job 3: 9 months Job 4: Amazon, 1 year 1 month Wondering if another job jump will make me look unreliable too. Please consider this as well in your polling. - Money wise any one of these salaries is fine. Though we do own a post covid price bought house so mortgage is ๐ My current TC is included in the poll Edit: Additional info from folks who asked: - citizen - I think Amazon pays me well. The team is nice and I get along with my manager. Downside is that I live in fear of PIP. Rationally I know I'm an important contributing member but horror stories from Blind and from colleagues in other orgs stresses me sometimes. - 5 years of experience
The quick jump from one company to another is a red flag on a resume, you should stay at least 2yrs at Amazon. Itโs also the one paying you the most and leaving now you might not get the full benefit of the brand name in your resume.
Appreciate this thought. Do you think I should attempt a dive and save to increase my salary? Not sure if it will sour my working relationship with my manager.
Iโve been on interview panels for 10 years in tech, but over last 2-3 years fewer people have batted an eye over frequent job changes for junior people (eg avg tenure 1-2 years in first few jobs) It does become an issue for more senior hires (anyone with Staff or people manager responsibilities), but I really wouldnโt sweat it if itโs your first few years of work. You can sell a story about finding a workplace that aligns with your values or needing to move. Iโve seen it all
Do you feel underpaid at AMZN? Anyways donโt go to MSFT.
Not really be honest I just live in constant fear of PIP. Could you tell me about why you don't think Microsoft is a good choice for me? Is it just TC related?
Well nothing wrong with MSFT and donโt much care about TC. WLB is great there.. but L62 is pretty shitty level. I wouldnโt do it. Ask for L64 at least.. donโt get sucked into it. Whatโs your YOR?
Microsoft anyday
Goldman is this because of the job security and culture?
Both
R u a on h1b or citizen?

TBH Iโd stay at Amazon since neither of these offers are a huge jump in TC. Given your resume and being a new dad (congratulations btw!) playing it safe for a year or two is a good bet. No reason to fear PIP, you can clearly land offers if it cones to that.
Thanks for your though Febo. I'll keep this in mind for my decision!
I'd say stay at Amazon for atleast 1 more year if your WLB is not too bad. As for fear of PIP, it's quite clear that you're capable of clearing interviews. If your rating is HV1 or above, it's better to stay.
I have no idea what my rating is ๐ my manager won't share it with me
High risk = high rewards. Peace of mind + low risk = low rewards. I would think twice or thrice to choose high risk at this stage of your life, which is some unknown/lesser known mid tier company.
Is the mid level company high risk in your opinion?
@Amazon yes.
