I’m currently a SWE at Microsoft with 3 YoE in a low-wage EU country. I was at Amazon until a few months ago as an L5 SDE and left because I got a way better offer from MSFT. Amazon has reached back with some US-based roles in teams I like and am familiar with. I have no qualms about working at Amazon, I was doing great there. Would it be a good move to go back to Amazon in this context? I also like MSFT but I was always curious to try the US market and I noticed Amazon pays way better there. The teams in question are in Seattle and Bellevue and I liked the area when I visited last year. I still don’t have the TC numbers but I’m making about $100k here in LCoL. Also, would a brief 7 months stint at MSFT reflect badly on my resume? I’m also curious about which company would make immigration easier in the long run if anyone happens to have any info. Thanks.
This should be a poll
Fair, I just made one.
Amazon culture Is shit
It’s a big change and you should do what’s best for you. Staying for a year is normal. I wouldn’t burn bridges with Microsoft.
Would it be burning bridges if I stay for under a year?
Maybe, maybe not, I don’t know what your situation is, but 7 months is not a lot of time. Productivity rises a lot after 6 months. They welcomed you to the company.
Is goal to come to the us? Then Amazon. Since you are boomerang you know the culture.
Seattle/Bellevue Amazon is probably going to be busier than MSFT but at 3YOE, I would say it’s a better career ramp and will pay better. Also it’s easier to switch internally at Amazon between teams
Go to Amazon (US). It will take approximately 3 months to relocate to the US so your currently stint at Microsoft may end up being 10 months before you resign. If I were you I would take 20 vacation days strategically to stretch that employment to 12 months, then you will not need to return the first year sign on bonus and it will not look weird in your resume.
OP, got the same offer from Amazon. DMed you
Go to Amazon.
