What do you think is a good yoe for a new grad who joined straight out of Masters to stick to before jumping ship?
Two years, tops. Especially as a new grad, it’s healthy to stretch exposure to different industries.
Depends on the career growth in those 10 years. If you like the company and have been promoted several times, why leave?
Staff eng here make less than new grads of FANG because of the abysmal stock appreciation. Granted SanDiego is a good place to live but totally overhyped
Companies with significant dividend payments aren’t really comparable on stock appreciation. It completely f*cks over employees who get RSUs that vest over 4 years.
18 years - 4 weeks of vacation, 8 week sabbatical every 7 years, amazing healthcare, and great teammates is hard to leave :)
This is one thing i think most people value. Years of working with same code base you get used to it and are afraid of change.
Op working with the same employer doesn't equate ti working on the same code base.
I've gone from 50k to 395k in 10 years by switching roles every 24-48 months. No way I would have ever cleared that much ground at one employer 🤷

Did you read the post? It was a lot of work to change roles, ramp up, search, interview, and prep. That isn't luck

Work is fine. It boils down to your total comp for those 10 years. And fomo
If the company is strong and they keep feathering your nest, why not stay?
You have to leave any Company after 2-3 years (even maybe G/F/N). The promotions will not come fast enough and you won't be taking advantage of the salary inflation. If you have a family and want WLB then I can totally understand staying much longer (especially if your skills/experience is still valued in the work place), but if you're young and unattached then ALWAYS consider your options and interview semi-regularly.
always interview at least once every 2 years. I’ve gone from 60k to 320k in <5 years by interviewing yearly

maybe around 500-600k but who knows
Seriously this is the worst idea. The market has boomed in the last 10 years, and raises are nothing like job switch pay bumps. Plus, you get to dip your toes in all sorts of industries.
